Prinsi 2003 Riserva Fausone Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $66
This Riserva Barbaresco scored in the “excellent” range because it is at drinking peak now. The wine is soft and generous and thickly padded with aromas of sweet cherry, almond marzipan, vanilla, red licorice, apple skin, black slate and smoke. It exhibits a remarkable balance between modern and traditional styles. Drink now.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Prinsi 2004 Gallina Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $57
This is a generous and round wine from the Gallina vineyard in Neive with pretty wood renderings of vanilla and spice that play a discreet background role to blackberry, red currants, road tar, licorice and anise. Those vibrant spice aromas add a patina of sweetness and softness that works well when combined with the wine’s natural intensity. Drink after 2012.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Prinsi 2004 Gaia Principe Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $52
Prinsi’s Gaia Principe cru is located very near the Gallina vineyard and shows slightly softer and less intense aromas. Winemaking plays a big role here: This is an oak-driven wine that melds supple aromas of vanilla and sweet spice over a lively base of red fruit. There’s also a mineral note of chalk or wet stone that lingers long on the finish.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Prinsi 2005 Gallina Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $63
From Barbaresco’s Gallina cru vineyard site, this is a bold wine that delivers impressive power and intensity. The focus here is on spice: vanilla and ground ginger are lavished over Nebbiolo’s characteristic tones of blue flower, licorice, black stone and resin. It stands out as a more obvious and toasty expression of the wine.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Prinsi 2006 Fausone Riserva Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $62
This pretty Riserva Nebbiolo will surely grow softer and finer with age. Those who drink it now will experience smoky, toasted aromas of almond, cigar box, moist earth and powdered licorice. The wine is also elegantly tight and focused in the mouth.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

Prinsi 2007 Vigneto Much Barbera (Barbera d'Alba Superiore)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $29
Barbera Vigneto Much showcases sweet aromas of vanilla, cinnamon and cedar wood behind loads of black fruit and wild berries. The wine is lean and compact on the close with a very cleansing, fresh finish.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Prinsi 2004 Gaia Principe Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $45
There is plenty to like in this wine with its rich dark fruit, Indian spices and leather but it also showed a slightly dank, wet fur character. On the palate, the animal quality had retreated to the side, and the fruit was dominant. Medium finish, a nice wine with a question mark.  — M.G.  (12/31/2007)

Prinsi 2008 San Cristoforo Dolcetto (Dolcetto d'Alba)

  1. $18
Here is a light and thin expression of Dolcetto with a bright fruit personality and loads of berry intensity. Try it with cold cuts, salami or slices of pizza.  — M.L.  (9/1/2010)
