Prospect 772 2007 The Brat Red (Sierra Foothills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $36
Softly tannic, sexy and delicious, with waves of berry-cherry pie filling and mocha for richness, and drier, tarter notes of currants, leather, rhubarb and pomegranates, accentuated with smoky wood. A blend of Grenache and Syrah, it’s sophisticated and nuanced. Try as an interesting, more food-friendly alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon.  — S.H.  (12/31/2009)

Prospect 772 2009 The Brat Red (Calaveras County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $36
An incredibly concentrated, silky blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. Nothing shy about this wine, inspired as it is by the great Chateauneuf-du-Papes and yet undoubtedly Californian. Make that mountain Californian. With baked cherry fruit and baking spices throughout and serious grip and weight, this is one heady and delicious wine.  — V.B.  (2/1/2012)

Prospect 772 2009 The Brawler Syrah-Viognier (Calaveras County)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $36
A stunning Syrah with 4% Viognier that’s almost black in color and aching with deep, dark cherry and black licorice surrounded by a lush, dense herb garden. This is a heavy, rich California Syrah, practically a velvet curtain, that will appeal to Rhône aficionados and anyone with a taste for something big, accentuated by a smoky finish.  — V.B.  (2/1/2012)

Prospect 772 2008 The Brat Red (Calaveras County)

  1. $36
Another very good Grenache-Syrah blend from this winery, continuing a string of successful bottlings. The wine is notable for its lush cherry, blackberry, cassis, licorice and spice flavors, and for a superb structure comprised of refined tannins and crisp acidity.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)

Prospect 772 2007 The Brawler Red (Sierra Foothills)

  1. $36
An ambitious Syrah. Shows extraordinarily fine tannins, soft and rich, with complex flavors of blackberries, currants, mocha and pepper. A touch of Viognier goes a long way, adding a vein of lime taste and acidity. Give it six months to integrate and calm down.  — S.H.  (12/31/2009)

Prospect 772 2009 The Instigator Syrah (Sonoma County)

  1. $36
Black as night, this Sonoma-sourced, 100% Syrah is a mouthful of tar, leather and dark exotic spices. Savory and smoky, it’s teeth-stainingly rich and dense, with time to age. Smoke a duck or prepare a cassoulet, and this Syrah will have found its perfect mate.  — V.B.  (2/1/2012)

Prospect 772 2005 The Brat Grenache-Syrah (Calaveras County)

  1. $36
This is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, and it’s an enormously sensual wine. With a soft, caressing texture of velvet and satin, it carries intricate flavors of chocolate-covered raspberries, black cherries, licorice, Dr. Pepper, smoky vanilla meringue, cloves, black pepper and other spices. Yet for all that fruity opulence, the finish is dry.  — S.H.  (7/1/2008)

Prospect 772 2005 The Brawler Syrah-Viognier (Calaveras County)

  1. $36
Mainly Syrah, with a little splash of Viognier, this opulent, sensual wine floods the mouth with flavors of blackberry and blueberry pie filling, chocolate-raspberry truffle, red licorice, black pepper, clove and vanilla oak. Made in the modern, cult Cab style, it has high alcohol and is soft.  — S.H.  (7/1/2008)
