Puerta de Granada 1997 Monastrell Crianza 1997 (Jumilla)

  1. $15
This is a nice example of the Mourvèdre that’s coming out of Jumilla in southeast Spain. It’s fleshy and full, with a welcome earthiness. Flavors of black plum and cherry cover the palate prior to a drying, tannic finish. This wine manages to pick up the pace after airing, always a sign of quality. From Bodegas Huertas.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)

Puerta de Granada 2000 Vino Tinto Tempranillo (Jumilla)

  1. $9
The nose is open and musky. Dark and deep flavors of cherry and plum seem a bit unrefined and robust. The finish is dry and tannic, so much so that it coats your mouth. It’s a fruit ball with power, but one without much balance or structure.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)

Puerta de Granada 1996 Puerta de Granada - Reserva Monastrell (Jumilla)

  1. $20
Medium-bodied with gritty, oaky tannins; some tart plum fruit lurks under the oak, but it's hard to find. Nose is fairly closed, but for some tarry notes.  — D.T.  (4/1/2003)
