Quinta d'Aguieira 2002 White (Beiras)

  • Best Buy
  1. $8
The Maria Gomes variety is said to provide this wine’s floral aromas, the Bical, it’s structure. Starts off with scents of flowershop greens and peaches, showing some apple flavors on the palate. Finishes tart, lemony and chalky; a fine palate refresher that has enough weight to accompany food.  — W.E.  (12/15/2003)

Quinta d'Aguieira 2000 White (Beiras)

  • Best Buy
  1. $8
Bical and Maria Gomes are the grapes. The aromas are floral, verging on Muscat- or Riesling-like. Flavors are green apple, pears, tropical fruit and tangerine, finishing spicy, with a hint of orange rind.  — J.C.  (12/31/2001)

Quinta d'Aguieira 2001 Touriga Nacional-Cabernet Sauvignon (Beiras)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $13
This blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, and it really dominates the wine, imparting black olive and bell pepper aromas that merge with cherry fruit and sweet oak on the palate. Supple and chewy, finishing with dry oak and firm tannins.  — W.E.  (1/1/2004)

Quinta d'Aguieira 2000 Chardonnay (Beiras)

  1. $10
An unusual Chardonnay, in which green, fresh wood flavors (Portuguese oak?) meld with sweet, juicy tropical fruit. It’s light to medium weight, with a slightly slick mouthfeel and decent length, but the green note persists and doesn’t meld harmoniously with the fruit’s pear-guava-nectar sweetness.  — M.M.  (12/31/2001)

Quinta d'Aguieira 1999 Touriga Nacional-Cabernet Sauvignon (Bairrada)

  1. $13
This uncommon marriage of big-boned red grapes seems overripe and bloated. Flavors of rum-drenched fruitcake and black plums mingle with dark chocolate and meat in the middle, but it’s around the edges where it suffers. It has no noticeable acidity or balance. Hot, heavy, raisiny and seemingly stewed.  — M.S.  (12/31/2001)
