Quinta do Portal 2003 Vintage Port (Port)

  1. $60
Potentially one of the best wines of the vintage, this is an extraordinary performance from a producer not previously noted for making such high-quality Vintage Ports. The wine—a special selection that at this stage, has no name—has great ripe fruit and huge tannins combined to make a dense, intense wine. It is dark, brooding and rich. There are also layers of…  — R.V.  (11/15/2005)

Quinta do Portal 2009 Colheita Red (Douro)

  • Best Buy
  1. $15
An elegant wine, its red fruits balanced with acidity and layers of wood aging. The style is serious, the ripe fruit restrained by the tannins. It will age well, giving an always structured, fine and stylish wine.  — R.V.  (4/1/2012)

Quinta do Portal 2007 Auru Red (Douro)

  • Online Exclusive
Auru is a play on the word Ouro, gold, from the Rio Douro, or river of gold. The wine is only made in the best years. It is a complete wine, with its spice and wood character just one element in the mix of sweet fruits, tight tannins and layers of acidity. It could well age over the next 3–4 years.  — R.V.  (8/1/2010)

Quinta do Portal 2003 Auru Red (Douro)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $70
The top wine in the Quinta do Portal range is in its second vintage. With 12 months aging in French oak, the power is all there in very dark, heavy tannins that dominate the fruit. This is a powerful expression of the richness and the structure of great Douro wines, all granite and mineral in character, dark and tough, sure to age well.  — R.V.  (9/1/2007)

Quinta do Portal 2007 Grande Reserva Red (Douro)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $45
A perfumed wine, powered by a velvet texture and tannins that have a hidden kick. The big, bold fruit flavors show acidity and a dry edge while also being rich. Very dense, textured wine for aging over 5–6 years.  — R.V.  (4/1/2011)

Quinta do Portal 2006 Grande Reserva Red (Douro)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $37
Dense and powerful, this is an impressively concentrated and intense wine. It brings out rich tannins, equally rich black plum and spice flavors, a layer of smokiness plus a strong slash of minerality that cuts across the texture. For aging 5–6 years.  — R.V.  (4/1/2009)

Quinta do Portal 2003 Grande Reserva Red (Douro)

  1. $29
A hugely juicy wine, dominated by Touriga Nacional, leavened by dry tannins. It’s big, ripe, with vivid red fruits giving spice and power. Immediately attractive now, it is likely to age well over the next 5–8 years.  — R.V.  (9/1/2007)

Quinta do Portal NV 20-year old tawny Port (Port)

  1. $52
Another Port success from the Branco family of Quinta do Portal, following their success with the 2003 vintage. This is a lovely, lively wine, with fresh acidity alongside good, mature fruit. It is ripe but very elegant, with a sweet, dried fruit aftertaste.  — R.V.  (8/1/2006)
