Ramos-Pinto

Casa Ramos Pinto was founded by Adriano Ramos Pinto in 1880. The Ramos Pinto Winery began operating on the Brazilian market in the early 20th century and became responsible for half of the wine exported to South America within a short amount of time. Casa Ramos Pinto believes the soil of the Douro region has much to do with the quality of their wines and therefore took ownership of a number of Douro based estates for their Ramos Pinto Vineyards. Casa Ramos Pinto enforces a strict self-production policy, meaning that all Casa Ramos Pinto wines are produced with grapes from their estates. Our Ramos Pinto wine reviews indicate the majority of their non-fortified as well as port wines are produced using Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão. Our Casa Ramos Pintos ratings reference their diverse portfolio from their value Bons Ares line of wines up to their premium Duas Quintas line. In 1990, Casa Ramos Pinto became part of the Roederer Group. To learn more about these wines check our Ramos Pintos online buying guide.

Ramos-Pinto 2001 Duas Quintas Red (Douro)

This blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional is appreciably lighter than the Touriga Nacional-dominated Reserva, but similar in flavor, with dark fruit and baking spices enlivened by a beam of bright acidity on the finish.  — W.E.  (10/1/2004)

Ramos-Pinto 1997 Duas Quintas Reserva Touriga Nacional (Douro)

  1. $34
This is in transtion. When young, it was impressive for its rich fruit and texture, but now it’s showing hints of green bean on the nose and a lener, more compact profile. Give it another few years to see if it turns around.  — J.C.  (7/1/2003)

Ramos-Pinto 2006 Adriano Red (Douro)

Initially ripe and spicy, there is also a stalky, black currant element to this fresh, fruity wine. It shows herbal character and acidity, which go well with the soft tannins and bright fruit flavors. An attractive wine, with a light, sweet finish.  — R.V.  (4/1/2009)

Ramos-Pinto 1999 Duas Quintas Red (Douro)

  1. $12
The fresh, popping all-fruit style of this light-bodied red makes it the cru Beaujolais of the Douro Valley. A distinct cherry flavor with some flowery accents renders it pleasant to quaff with grilled meats, or grilled vegetables, if that’s your preference. It’s a pop-the-cork-and-enjoy wine.  — M.S.  (11/15/2002)

Ramos-Pinto 1999 Duas Quintas Reserva Especial Red (Douro)

  1. $11
Boasts flavors of prune and plum, with hints of alcohol, clove and cinnamon, almost like a rum-soaked spice cake. A bit heavy and low-acid; could use more freshness.  — J.C.  (11/15/2003)

Ramos-Pinto NV Reserva Collector Port (Port)

  1. $19
Roederer-Champagne owned Ramos Pinto has produced a soft, easy and ripe Reserve. Aromas of cistus flowers are off-putting, but the flavors of sweet milk chocolate are attractive. It just lacks structure.  — R.V.  (3/1/2005)

Ramos-Pinto NV White Port (Port)

A soft, fruity wine that tastes pleasantly sweet, offering aromatic almonds and white fruits.  — R.V.  (12/15/2008)

Ramos-Pinto NV Lagrima Port (Port)

Apples and cream aromas. The palate is sweet, but lacks character, giving a fresh, clean, but rather dull wine.  — R.V.  (12/15/2008)
