Rasa Vineyards 2008 Creative Impulse DuBrul Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Yakima Valley)

Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011
A fine expression of the special strengths of the DuBrul vineyard. The fruit is pure and juicy, a riot of blueberry, blackberry and cassis. There is a focused thread of fresh herb and as the nose expands the baking spices kick in beautifully. A wine to study and explore; it can continue to evolve for hours, if not days.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Rasa Vineyards 2007 QED Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50
QED stands for Quod Erat Demonstrandum (what was to be shown). A further motto on the label reads “the proof is in the bottle.” This is supple, almost voluptuous, dark, sappy, packed with compressed black fruits, streaked with iodine and coffee. It shows excellent length and opens with scents hinting of game, earth, sweet mocha, lead pencil and cedar. Complex and…  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Rasa Vineyards 2008 Principia Reserve Syrah (Walla Walla Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $85
100% varietal, this is a strict barrel selection from key vineyards – Les Collines, Seven Hills, Lewis and Portteus. It is tight, dense, deeply detailed, and built for long term aging. Right now it’s showing a fair amount of herb and forest floor, but the structure is so perfect that it doesn’t matter.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Rasa Vineyards 2008 QED Syrah (Walla Walla Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50
A style that could be described as austere. The fruit has a wild, mountain-grown character, like blueberries fresh-picked a bit early in the season. The herbal strains weave throughout, and the tannins, as with all Rasa wines, are sculpted and refined. Impeccable balance, detail and length.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Rasa Vineyards 2009 Vox Populi Mourvèdre (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $45
A rare 100% varietal Mourvèdre. The tannins are superb, almost silky, almost impossible to achieve with this rough and tumble grape. Dark, smoky, earthy and still refined, this seduces with clean, wild blueberry fruit, just hinting at a mountain berry sweetness.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Rasa Vineyards 2010 The Lyricist Riesling (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
Harvested at high sugar, but set against very tart acidity. It’s a sharply defined wine, with a sugary finish. Good concentration, with a sugar-acid balance and dense phenolics, but not knit together. The components all stick out.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Rasa Vineyards 2009 The Composer Riesling (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
This is sourced from old vine (1973) vines. It has hints of band-aid scents, and a tropical, tutti-fruity flavor. Plenty of acidity, and excellent length, but not entirely knit together. The jury is out.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)
