A jammy, highly extracted style, with bright berry fruit. Very tannic; it coats the palate with dusty, almost anesthetizing tannins, but seems to have the stuffing to age.

Compared to Ravenswood’s Monte Rossa, a shade less intense and concentrated, but more elegant. Dark and aromatic, with briary herb and tobacco flavors and, under the tannins, blackberries and coffee. Should develop further by 2006.

Spicy up front, with full-throttle Bing cherry flavors. The wine fans out on the finish to reveal pleasing toast, spice, cola, herb, cedar and pepper flavors, with a lingering touch of oak.
