Raymond 2002 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (St. Helena)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $50
From a small estate vineyard comes this lush, complex and delicious 100% Cabernet. It’s concentrated in cassis flavors enhanced with oak, and displays classic Napa tannins that are rich, ripely sweet and ageworthy. It’s a joy to see veteran Raymond continue to produce great Cabernet in Napa Valley.  — S.H.  (7/1/2006)

Raymond 2008 Generations Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $100
So rich and ripe in fruit, you almost don’t notice that it’s also a complicated and layered wine in structure. Blackberry marmalade, cassis and cocoa flavors are balanced despite hefty alcohol. An extraordinarily delicious wine, but it’s meant to be enjoyed in its youth. Drink up by 2016.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

Raymond 2008 District Collection Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville)

  1. $75
A superb wine, showing real Oakville character. It’s bone dry, rich and complex in tannin structure, with wonderfully ripe blackberry and cassis flavors. Yet there’s a minerality that anchors the wine, and the finish is long, smooth and spicy. Just delicious now, and should hold over the next six years.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

Raymond 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $35
Other wineries come and go. Raymond remains, offering solid Napa Valley Cab at a fair price. The ’05 Reserve calls to mind the very fine 2000, but actually costs less. It’s a dry, elegantly structured wine, rich in sweet fine tannins, and offering up complex, delicious flavors of freshly picked ripe blackberries, spicy cassis, baked cherry pie and smoky oak. Drink…  — S.H.  (6/1/2008)

Raymond 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville)

  1. $60
Very rich and ripe. Earns its high score for the interesting, complex presentation, like a high-production play, with classic blackberry, cassis and new oak flavors, wrapped into refined tannins. Dramatic and impressive, but not an ager, so drink up.  — S.H.  (8/1/2011)

Raymond 2006 Generations Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $85
A gorgeous Cabernet, sweetly soft and generous, offering delicious flavors. With an overlay of smoky, vanilla-scented oak, it has a core of blackberries, cherries, cassis and spices. Feels vital and flashy. Drink over the next four years.  — S.H.  (8/1/2011)

Raymond 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $60
A flashy Cabernet, marked by its complex structure. Although fully dry, it has wildly ripe, sweet flavors of black cherries and cassis, accented with caramelized oak. At the age of nearly five, it seems best now and over the next four years for sheer vitality.  — S.H.  (8/1/2011)

Raymond 2006 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $35
A beautiful Cabernet. Pretty tannic now, so if you drink, decant, and have with rich, oily meats and cheeses. But the heart of black cherries, and cassis, and the overall balance, enable this wine to develop over the next 6–8 years.  — S.H.  (6/1/2009)
