Red Sky 2006 Syrah (Washington)

  1. $30
Boushey vineyard grapes deliver a well-integrated flavor set that runs the gamut from currant and fig and plum to earth, black tea, coffee, toast and tobacco. The wine was aged for 28 months in “mostly” neutral oak, but there is some influence from the barrels also.  — P.G.  (4/1/2011)

Red Sky 2003 Cabernet Franc (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
Somewhat in the same tight, austere, guarded mode as the winery’s Bordeaux blend, this cabernet franc breathes slowly into elegant complexity. Spicy, compact blue and red fruits are lightly accented with sweet spice.  — P.G.  (6/1/2006)

Red Sky 2007 Serendipity Red (Washington)

  1. $40
Smooth and seductive, scented with sandalwood, tasting of butterfat, toast and chocolate, layered around generous fruit. Cherry, currant and plum lead into polished tannins and lots of chocolaty oak.  — P.G.  (4/1/2011)

Red Sky 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington)

  1. $38
Strong, saturated fruit flavors of raspberry and cassis are cloaked in substantial oak flavors – the wine spent 34 months in new French and American oak barrels. There is some volatility and sharp acids as well; it’s a bold style that will appeal to those wine drinkers who really like the flavors of new oak barrels.  — P.G.  (4/1/2011)

Red Sky 2003 Merlot (Washington)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
A blend of fruit from Conner Lee, Pepper Bridge and Seven Hills vineyards, this ripe (15.3% alcohol) Merlot doesn’t show the heat. Rather it delivers intense flavors of black fruits, coffee and nuances of herb and fungus, nicely defined and structured. There is enough backbone for further aging.  — P.G.  (5/1/2007)

Red Sky 2004 Syrah (Washington)

  1. $30
The winery’s 2003 Syrah was sourced from Boushey, but in 2004 they switched to Destiny Ridge and Dineen. This is an improvement, perhaps vintage-related, but it shows dark, densely scented black fruits and aromatic hints of leather, cedar and chocolate. It’s quite youthful and tangy, with tart, citrusy, racy flavors, and will most certainly continue to add muscle…  — P.G.  (5/1/2007)

Red Sky 2002 Red (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

  1. $30
A mix of Walla Walla and Yakima grapes yields a rather austere wine with nuances of mineral, gravel, water over stone. It tastes European rather than American; it will reward your attention with a nuanced, lightly peppery, balanced structure that suggests it will open up gracefully over the coming decade.  — P.G.  (6/1/2006)

Red Sky 2003 Boushey Vineyard Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  1. $30
Though not as ripe or potent as the leading Boushey Vineyard Syrahs, this delicate wine is nicely balanced and reasonably complex, showing light pepper along with tart cherry- and berry-flavored fruit. There’s plenty of acid, but the fruit is ripe enough to avoid the sour-candy label.  — P.G.  (6/1/2006)
