Smells like a mix of apricots, pineapples and pears, with a judicious sprinkling of cinnamon. On the palate, the spice and earth components really kick in, adding richness to the fruit and honey flavors. Finishes with lingering sweetness. Approachable now, but should age beautifully. — J.C. This youthful auslese is still showing a lot of postfermentation estery characters: it’s very perfumed and floral, with such tropical notes as banana and pineapple. In 2009, the Josephshöfer seems to offer the most mineral presence of the various von Kesselstatt GG bottlings, displaying an almost briny character at first, then molten rock tinged with hints of peach, orange and apple.
