Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011
This Riserva Amarone proves to be an extremely elegant and sophisticated wine with enormously rich notes of black fruit supported by savory tones of exotic spice, leather, dried tobacco and beef jerky. The wine is beautifully polished and smooth, but it also delivers unforgettable power and depth.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)

Remo Farina 2006 Monte Fante Riserva Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $90
The overall structure and density of this bold Amarone helps carry its hefty aromas of teriyaki, soy, mesquite, brown sugar, molasses and dried prune. It shows firmness with very polished, fine tannins.  — M.L.  (12/1/2011)

Remo Farina 2003 Monte Fante Riserva Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $90
Remo Farina is an excellent operation (now taken over by the next generation and currently undergoing a winery refurbishment) and the estate’s beautiful Monte Fante Amarone is thickly extracted with mature aromas of black fruit, apple, cola and exotic spice. The wine offers character and pizzazz thanks to the polished quality of its tannins.  — M.L.  (12/1/2009)

Remo Farina 2004 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $50
This is an inky wine with dark concentration and a thick, brooding personality. There are intense aromas here of exotic spice, mature fruit, mesquite wood, and loads of oak and vanilla. It’s still a bit raw and chewy and needs another two or three years of cellar aging before those wood elements fall in line.  — M.L.  (12/1/2009)

Remo Farina 2000 Montecorna Red (Valpolicella)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $19
With toasted aromas as well as whiffs of bacon, leather, cola and hickory, this offers a mighty fine nose. The palate is equally impressive: It’s rich and meaty, with expressive cherry fruit and lots of spice. The chocolaty, firmly tannic finish completes this rich wine. Editors’ Choice.  — W.E.  (5/1/2003)

Remo Farina 2007 Montecorna Red (Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso)

Montecorna is a wonderful Ripasso that tastes soft and velvety without being too heavy or chewy. Elegant layers of spice, wild berry and roasted nut form a bright aromatic bouquet and the wine imparts long-lasting berry flavors.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)

Remo Farina 2005 Montecorna Red (Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso)

  1. $20
This ripasso performed very well thanks to its inherent richness, smoothness and its multifaceted dimension. Aromas include spice, mature fruit, cherry, cola, suede, coffee and chocolate fudge. It’s sweet, soft and supple on the tongue and would pair with grilled sirloin.  — M.L.  (10/1/2009)

Remo Farina 1998 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $34
Menthol aromas suggest some barrique aging. And in the mouth, you get some green oak along with sweet cherry fruit. The mouthfeel is generated by firm tannins, and the finish is oaky, with some chocolate and pie cherry. At this stage, wood is a dominant feature. We think that will fade in about five years.  — W.E.  (5/1/2003)
