Rich and dense, with the creamy smooth texture of buttery chocolate frosting, and complex flavors of blackberry, mocha, game, vanilla and dusty brown spices. Structured, with firm but supple tannins. Shows this AVA’s potential for well-ripened Syrah, not just Pinot Noir.

Nowhere near as lush or complex as the Santa Rita Hills bottling, but still a good wine. Grown in Calistoga, it is ultraripe, brimming with plum pudding and blackberry flavors. The alcohol is high, and the wine finishes soft, with a touch of Porty raisins.
