Reynolds Family Winery 2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $89
Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011
A big, vital and important Cabernet that deserves a place in the cellar. It hits the mouth with huge tannins that are tight and locked down, yet sweetly ripe. That contradiction persists throughout the fantastically complex blackberry, cherry, currant and mocha flavors. A very fine, superior wine that exemplifies the Stags Leap iron fist in a velvet glove. As…  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Reynolds Family Winery 2003 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $89
Very fine Cab, young and tight in tannins now, but enormously promising. All the parts have yet to come together, but each part is really good. The flavors are ripe and delicious in cassis, blackberries, cherries, cedar, pencil lead and minerals. The tannins are thick and sweet. Acidity is as fine as Stags Leap gets, and the oak is lavish but tasteful. All it needs…  — S.H.  (10/1/2007)

Reynolds Family Winery 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $85
Beautifully combines layers of silky-smooth fruit—cassis and cherries—with spice notes of cinnamon and vanilla. A creamy texture and a long, richly tannic finish wrap up this impressive package. Drink now–2015.  — J.C.  (10/1/2004)

Reynolds Family Winery 2000 Estate Select Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
Tempting to think you could blind-taste this and identify it as upscale Napa Cabernet. True, the vintage has limited the richness, but it’s still a polished wine, with delicious cassis, olive and herb flavors and sumptuous, velvety tannins. Turns dry and oaky on the finish, and will hold for several years in your cellar.  — S.H.  (11/15/2003)

Reynolds Family Winery 2007 Merlot (Stags Leap District)

  1. $40
A nice Merlot whose rich tannins and elegance mark its Napa origins. Although it finishes dry, it fills the mouth with ripe, sweet cherry, red currant, toast and caramel flavors. Needs lots of breathing to let it mellow.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Reynolds Family Winery 2000 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $78
This top-tier release from Reynolds is the hardest of the four new releases. It has a firm streak of metallic acidity and the tannins are somewhat aggressive, limiting the palate’s ability to enjoy the underlying blackberry and currant flavors. It is not as immediately enjoyable as the Estate Select, but has greater longterm prospects.  — S.H.  (11/15/2003)

Reynolds Family Winery 2002 Persistence Red (Napa Valley)

  1. $50
With Syrah blended into Bordeaux varieties, this wine has a dry mouthfeel that carries complexity from entry to finish. It’s fruity, but young, and true to its southerly Oak Knoll terroir, which is harder, more tannic and acidic, than further north. Try holding for a year or two to soften and sweeten.  — S.H.  (11/15/2005)

Reynolds Family Winery 2002 Pinot Noir (Carneros)

  1. $45
Overripe, with stewed fruit, baked cherry pie and toasted coconut aromas, but you like it for the supple texture and soft mouthfeel.  — W.E.  (11/1/2004)
