Riglos 2008 Gran Corte Red (Mendoza)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $40
A luxurious Malbec-and-Cab-led blend that spent 22 months in new French oak and hardly shows it. The nose is sweet and deeply fruity, with floral violet notes and chocolate. It’s seriously dense in the mouth, with chewy tannins, roasted blackberry, exotic spice and tobacco flavors. Roasted and rich on the back end, with broad swaths of berry fruit and texture…  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Enthusiast 100 2011
Rich, pure and inviting as can be, with coconut, cola, licorice and a ton of black fruit making for an excellent bouquet. The palate is rich and smooth in texture, with blackberry, cassis and cola flavors. Layered and pure on the finish, with exemplary depth and length.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Riglos 2006 Gran Corte Red (Tupungato)

  1. $50
An intense Malbec-led marauder with rubbery black fruit aromas, spice and mile-deep ripeness. Pure, modern, beefy and purple, with rich black fruit flavors and also some sweeter blueberry notes. Finishes sizable but smooth. Drinkable now but better in a year. 70% Malbec with 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cab Franc.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Riglos 2006 Gran Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $32
Aromas of sandalwood, violets and berries give this one an elevated, magnetic nose, while the palate is lush, big and full of black fruit and masculine tannins. A dark, minerally style from high-elevation vineyards with a coating of vanilla and caramel on the long finish.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Riglos 2008 Las Divas Vineyard Gran Cabernet Sauvignon (Tupungato)

  1. $30
Fairly herbal on first take, with green, peppery core aromas coming with wood spice and black fruit. The palate is firm and clacky, with tannic clamp and jammy flavors of baked plum that turn candied the longer it airs out. Sweet and jammy by the time it finishes.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Riglos 2006 Gran Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $32
Big, meaty and dense, with dampness, earth and size. This is your typical deep and chewy wine, but the structure and core qualities are just above average. Flavors of black cherry, plum and brown sugar are good, while the finish shows a creamy vanilla flavor and cola. Good but not great for the price.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Riglos 2009 Gran Cabernet Sauvignon (Tupungato)

  1. $32
Fiery smelling at first, with aromas of mint, raw oak, coconut and baked berry fruits. Feels rich almost to the point of syrupy, with spicy, lightly green flavors infiltrating the core of cassis and berry. Finishes herbal and stalky, with a lingering green flavor.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)
