Riverina Estates 1998 1164 Family Reserve Shiraz (Riverina)

  1. $29
The first impression from the nose is that of raisins, but with time you get pound cake and some Port. As with the bouquet, the first taste reveals prunes and raisins, but behind that there’s some coffee and character. While this is not a full-force, in-your-face wine, it does have weight, heft and other calling cards of Aussie Shiraz.  — M.S.  (3/1/2003)

Riverina Estates 2000 1164 Family Reserve Shiraz (South Eastern Australia)

  1. $30
Black fruit is couched in fine tannins in the mouth, with tobacco and root beer flavors following up on the finish. The nose, too, is unusual, with soy, hickory and anise aromas. What keeps this wine from showing a bit better than it did, however, is a sour note that hits at palate entry.  — D.T.  (12/31/2003)

Riverina Estates 2001 Warburn Chardonnay (New South Wales)

  1. $10
Goes down so easy; if you can’t get away to Cancun for vacation, this is the next best thing. This is a tropical Chardonnay if ever there was one, with pineapple and melon notes on the palate, and with pineapple and coconut on the nose. Finishes dry, with some citrus peel.  — D.T.  (8/1/2003)

Riverina Estates 2003 Bushman's Gully Semillon-Chardonnay (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $7
Simple and steady wins the best-buy race. Flavors are sunny and bright—yellow fruit with floral/honeysuckle accents—and the body is medium and approachable. Zesty aromas and a sweet-tart finish complete a nice, affordable picture.  — D.T.  (11/15/2004)

Riverina Estates 2001 Warburn Sémillon (New South Wales)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
The aromas may remind you a little of Chardonnay: butter, toast, yellow fruit. In the mouth, there’s a spine of lemon-citrus acidity, fleshed out with peach and butter accents. Flavors intensify on the finish.  — D.T.  (11/15/2004)

Riverina Estates 2001 Bushman's Gully Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $6
This wine’s tangy red fruit—raspberry, cherry, plum—and slim body will remind you more of Grenache than a Shiraz/Cab. The nose doesn’t exactly say Shiraz, either, with its Asian-inspired aromas (is that rice paper?). Finishes with oak and herbs.  — D.T.  (10/1/2003)

Riverina Estates 2001 Lombard Station - Premium Selection Semillon-Chardonnay (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $9
This brand’s Warburn and Lombard Station lines yield some good, and well-priced, selections. I like this white’s minerally, powdery mouthfeel and flavors, and subtle yellow fruit. There’s some cream here, which gives the wine some roundness in the mouth, plus nice vanilla and toffee aromas. It’s pretty, talc-like and feminine.  — D.T.  (11/15/2003)

Riverina Estates 2001 Lombard Station - Premium Selection Merlot (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $9
Burly wood, black pepper and steak waft from the nose. Oak on the palate gives the otherwise pretty simple wine some texture; jammy black fruit lingers underneath.  — D.T.  (10/1/2003)
