This is a Cab to bring joy to a wine critic’s heart. It’s just lovely, being dry and elegantly structured, offering a complex balance between blackberry fruit and earthier notes of tobacco and sage. What a great house pour, and look at that price. Production was only 1,200 cases.  — S.H.  (10/1/2011)

Rock Hollow 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (Santa Barbara County)

  • Best Buy
  1. $12
From two vineyards located in the warmer part of Santa Ynez Valley, this Sauvignon Blanc was mostly fermented in stainless steel, with a portion in neutal oak. The result is a nice, rich and creamy wine, slightly sweet in citrus, apricot and vanilla bean flavors, and balanced with crisp acidity.  — S.H.  (2/1/2011)

Rock Hollow 2010 Vintner's Selection Sauvignon Blanc (Santa Barbara County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $13
The label doesn’t tell you, but this is from the Firestone family’s Curtis Winery vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. It’s a very nice wine, especially at this price. A little too sweet, its orange, lime, lemongrass and vanilla flavors are balanced by crisp acidity.  — S.H.  (2/1/2012)

Rock Hollow 2009 Vintner's Selection Chardonnay (Santa Barbara County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
Lots of oak on this Chardonnay, but it’s awkward, and feels overworked and sweetly simple, despite some pretty pineapple jam flavors.  — S.H.  (2/1/2011)
