Rodney Strong 2004 Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County)

  1. $25
A very nice Cabernet, with a rich vein of tannins that gives it a crunchy texture, and forward black currant, cherry, and plum flavors that are as juicy as they come. Nearly 100% varietal Cab, it feels upscale and plush in the mouth, and gets better as it warms in the glass. Fair price for a Cab this good.  — S.H.  (7/1/2008)

Rodney Strong 2009 Estate Vineyards Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

  1. $20
Made in a leaner, drier, lighter style than most Russian River Pinots, but the elegance and complexity are very attractive. Shows a white pepper and herbal note to the sour cherry candy fruit, and is balanced with perfect acidity. A beautiful wine to accompany, not overwhelm, fine foods. Production was an astounding 109,000 cases.  — S.H.  (2/1/2011)

Rodney Strong 2007 Estate Vineyards Chardonnay (Chalk Hill)

  1. $20
This is a great price for a Chardonnay of this sophistication. It satisfies for the buttercream, buttered toast and vanilla richness to the pineapple and pear fruit, yet is balanced with crisp acidity and a minerally elegance. Drink now.  — S.H.  (10/1/2009)

Good price for a Cab this good. It’s dry, rich and complex, with blackberry, cherry, currant and herb flavors wrapped into firm, dusty tannins. Not an ager, but beautiful now for its elegance.  — S.H.  (9/1/2010)

Rodney Strong 2010 Estate Vineyards Chardonnay (Chalk Hill)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
This is one of the best California Chardonnays in its price range. It’s not a rich wine; instead, it’s dry, crisply acidic and minerally, with citrus zest, vanilla cream and subtle oak flavors. With 65,000 cases produced, this should be easy to find.  — S.H.  (11/1/2012)

Rodney Strong 2010 Estate Vineyards Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

  1. $20
The vintage was kind to Rodney Strong, resulting in a fine, clean, crisp and savory young wine. It’s a little light and not an ager, but offers complex, satisfying waves of red cherries and currants, cola, bacon, sandalwood and peppery spices.  — S.H.  (11/1/2012)

Rodney Strong 2008 Estate Vineyards Chardonnay (Chalk Hill)

  1. $22
Classy Chardonnay. Shows ripe, savory pineapple, Meyer lemon, lime and mineral flavors, brightened with crisp acidity and enriched with a touch of sweet oak. As rich as it is, it feels elegant and refined in the mouth.  — S.H.  (9/1/2010)

Tastes sharp and jammy, a very young wine with fresh flavors of cherries and black raspberries. Gets the Pinot job done at a decent price, and could mellow in the bottle through 2011.  — S.H.  (6/1/2010)
