Round Pond 2008 Reserve Bovet Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $95
Extraordinarily ripe and sweet in blackberries, cassis and figs, with a lovely perfume of violets and cedar, this soft, lush Cabernet, which was blended with some Petit Verdot, is so decadent now, you can hardly resist it. But it’s pretty tannic, with good acidity, and has the structure to ride out the next eight years.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

Round Pond 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $60
A worthy followup to the 2005 bottling, the ’06 shows similarly explosive flavors of blackberries, cherries, blueberries and violets, with plenty of new oak. It’s bone dry and tightly wound in tannins now, and needs time, but should make for a fine bottle. Best 2011–2014.  — S.H.  (11/1/2009)

Round Pond 2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $50
Quite a good Cabernet, virgorous and dry, with an earthy edge of sweet, dried herbs alongside the blackberries and cedar. More elegant and food-friendly than many of the fruitier, high alcohol, oaky Cabs out there.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Round Pond 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $60
There’s a pure, sweet Cabernet in the bottle that wants to come out, but it’s held back right now with sturdy tannins that make for a palate astringency. The flavors are explosive, of blackberries, cassis, cherries, chocolate and smoky new oak. Needs time. Best after 2011 and well beyond.  — S.H.  (3/1/2009)

Round Pond 2009 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $50
Extremely rich, soft and fruity, like blackberry pie drizzled with melted chocolate. The tannins are lush, complex and gentle. Made in the modern way, it’s certainly delicious, but almost too much of a good thing.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

Round Pond 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $50
Very, very tannic. Sometimes these super-astringent young Napa Cabs age well, but in this case you have to wonder if the fruit will outlast the tannins. Buried deep down are bone-dry, but savory, blackberries and black currants. It’s a big gamble to cellar.  — S.H.  (8/1/2010)

Round Pond 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $50
Bold and direct, this wine appeals for its fruity flavors and dry balance. Blackberry pie, olive tapenade, roasted coffee bean and smoky oak aromas and flavors lead to a tannic midpalate and finish. Will benefit from moderate aging through 2010.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Round Pond 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $30
A soft, lush Cabernet that’s been blended with a little Merlot. While it doesn’t have quite the concentration of Round Pond’s more expensive Cabs, its blackberry, cherry and toast flavors are delicious. Drink now.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)
