Rudi Pichler 2008 Wösendorfer Kollmutz Reserve Grüner Veltliner (Wachau)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $97
This is the third vintage of Rudi Pichler’s Reserve from the Kollmutz Vineyard. It shows an extra richness over the already concentrated Smaragd, a powerhouse of intensity, spice, mango, oregano and lemon verbena crispness. The balance is already there, now the wine needs to mature.  — R.V.  (10/1/2010)

Rudi Pichler 2008 Wösendorfer Hochrain Smaragd Grüner Veltliner (Wachau)

  1. $81
Stunningly beautiful wine, its pure fruit driven by its mineral and spice texture. This is impressive Grüner, tasting of the hard rocks and heat of the Wachau while keeping bright yellow and apple flavors. Age for 4–5 years or more.  — R.V.  (10/1/2010)

Rudi Pichler 2006 Weissenkirchner Achleiten Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $67
A terroir-driven wine from poor soil in one of the great Wachau vineyards. It’s possible to taste the stone and the steely character from the green fruit. This is a wine that needs aging; don’t drink before 2013.  — R.V.  (5/1/2008)

Rudi Pichler 2008 Wösendorfer Kollmutz Smaragd Grüner Veltliner (Wachau)

  1. $60
Smooth wine, its smoky aromas leading to a ripe texture of spiced peach, baked apples and a fresh asparagus intensity. The wine has weight without any loss of freshness. Age for 4–5 years.  — R.V.  (10/1/2010)

Rudi Pichler 2003 Weissenkirchner Achleiten Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)

  1. $63
Fantastic stuff, even though it seems a bit closed at the moment. Nectarine and melon fruit on the nose; hints of greens as well. Full-bodied flavors are of ultraripe stone fruit and minerally diesel fuel, with peppery nasturtium blossoms on the finish. Approachable now. It may not be a 20-year wine, but should still hold easily through 2015. Imported by Vin Divino.  — J.C.  (5/1/2005)

An impressive wine, a real star, with its honeyed aromas, rounded green fruits and a concentration of power that is balanced with acidity and a light, floating aftertaste.  — R.V.  (5/1/2008)

Rudi Pichler 2006 Wösendorfer Kirchweg Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)

  1. $56
This vineyard, the “way to the church,” gives a full, rounded wine with very pure, direct fruit, and a green structure. This is an impressive wine that offers minerality as well as big fruit.  — R.V.  (5/1/2008)

Rudi Pichler 2008 Wösendorfer Kollmutz Smaragd Weissburgunder (Wachau)

  1. $43
Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) is rare in the Wachau. In the hands of Rudi Pichler, you find a wine that tastes of the apricots for which the Wachau is also famous. This is delicious wine, rounded and ripe, packed with luscious fruit and acidity.  — R.V.  (10/1/2010)
