Guaranteed to please the most discriminating Chardonnay fans for its dry crispness, great structure and endless opulence. Massively complex, offering waves of grilled pineapple, pear, buttered toast and smoky vanilla. The grapes came mainly from Bien Nacido Vineyard, with the balance from Sierra Madre. Only 338 cases produced.
A beautiful, lush Chardonnay, made in the ripe California style. Rich and creamy, marked with brisk acidity, it shows wonderful flavors of pineapples, roasted marshmallows, buttered toast and vanilla, with a tart, spicy scour of lime. Brilliant and complex. The vineyards were a combination of Sierra Madre and Bien Nacido.
Rusack’s best 2008 Pinot comes from this great vineyard that displays such fine Santa Rita Hills character. It’s ripe enough in cherries to satisfy, and also brisk in acidity, with complex mineral and herb notes, and the oak barrel layering is perfect. Lovely now for its silky texture, and will develop over the next 5–7 years.
Who wouldn’t love this Pinot Noir? It’s zippy in acidity and ripe in briary raspberry and cherry fruit, with spicy, smoky oak complexity. Really defines the luxurious silkiness of the appellation. The grapes are mostly from the Fiddlestix Vineyard, with the balance hailing from Rio Vista Vineyard. Drink now-2015.
A great big, oaky wine; it’s full-bodied, tannic and incredibly fruity. But the tannins are sweet and softly ripe, and as rich as the fruit is in black cherries, black raspberries, smoky blueberries, mushu plum sauce and carob, there’s good acidity to balance it. It all adds up to a totally delicious wine that’s ready to drink now.
A first-rate Chardonnay, and a great value compared to others of its class. Shows perfectly ripe flavors of pineapples, nectarines, papayas, limes and minerals, with exquisite additions of buttercream, Champagne yeast, buttered toast and smoky vanilla. Absolutely rewarding from first sip to last.
Rich, vibrant and clean, this Chardonnay shows tremendous appeal in the smoky, leesy, creamy oak coating, with its buttered cinnamon toast and vanilla, as well as in the underlying flavors of green apples, citron, Asian pears and minerals. Beautifully scoured with acidity, it’s a beauty.
A stunning Syrah, with a bit of Petite Sirah that seems to provide darkness, tannins and structure. Marked with black pepper aromas, it’s extraordinarily rich in blackberry, blueberry and mocha flavors, with a mushroomy earthiness and sweet smoky oak influences. Full-bodied and dense now, it wants at least 3–5 years to come around.
