Sacred Hill 1997 Rifleman's Chardonnay (Hawke's Bay)

A small bird, not Chuck Connors, gives this wine its name. A huge, intensely toasted Chardonnay with lemon, green-apple, butterscotch and custard aromas and flavors. Rich, oaky and weighty, it has very good structure and balance, and should age nicely over a few more years.

Sacred Hill 1998 Sauvage Sauvignon Blanc (Hawke's Bay)

Steer clear of this one if you like your Sauvignons done in stainless. This one is 100% barrel fermented, yielding some toasty, smoky aromas that blend well with the forceful tropical fruit flavors. There’s guava and pineapple, smoke and menthol on the long finish.

Sacred Hill 1999 Rifleman's Chardonnay (Hawke's Bay)

A structured and intense Chardonnay that should improve over the next few years, it’s tight at first but opens with air. Pear and guava are set off by toast and menthol, which turn into lightly toasted hazelnuts on the extended finish.

Sacred Hill 1998 Whitecliff Chardonnay (Marlborough & Hawkes Bay)

Although this Chardonnay is 100% stainless-steel fermented, there is a richness of flavor and texture here that could lead you to believe otherwise. Honey, flowers, pear and rich, almost Tokay-like aromas open to a full palate of very good fruit and spicy, nutty flavors. No oak, and yet no lack of weight.
