Sandeman NV Royal Corregidor Rich Old Oloroso Sherry (Jerez)

  1. $25
Rich and unctuous; a big, muscular, semi-sweet beauty with a meaty frame and gorgeous maple and toffee aromas. Broad-shouldered across the palate, with apricot and quince flavors accented by cinnamon and nutmeg. In terms of mouthfeel, it’s like a fine liqueur, and on the finish everything you’ve previously smelled and/or tasted comes back into perfect focus.  — M.S.  (8/1/2003)

Sandeman NV Royal Ambrosante Aged 20 Years Old Solera Pedro Ximénez (Jerez)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $24
Sandeman excels with its reserve-level sherries, as is exemplified by this stand-out PX. Figs and raisins are front and center throughout, but it never sits heavily on your palate. Just the opposite, there’s plow-through acidity that creates a brilliant mouthfeel and the sensation of freshness. Fabulous by itself or on top of vanilla ice cream.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Sandeman NV 40-year old tawny Port (Port)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $135
At first taste, this appears amazingly fresh for a 40-year-old, but then the older flavors kick in. There is concentration, ripeness and huge intensity of flavor. It’s a beautiful wine, with dried apricots giving freshness. Imported by Pernod Ricard.  — R.V.  (8/1/2006)

Sandeman 1997 Quinta do Vau Port (Douro)

  1. $38
Perhaps the major surprise is that one of the top wines is a single quinta Port from Sandeman, a house that, after a fairly lean period, is reaffirming its commitment to Vintage Port. This is luscious, rich, almost creamy in texture, with piles of black fruit, lavender and spice.  — W.E.  (12/15/1999)

Sandeman NV 40-years Old Tawny Port (Port)

  1. $125
Dark raisin and dried apricot flavors manifest on this immensely dark, old goldhued wine. Enormous concentration, as with the initially, almost painful acidity that comes through the spirit. This is an old wine, no question, but not too old, one to be savored in sips with all the flavors working at high intensity.  — R.V.  (12/15/2008)

Sandeman NV 30-Year-Old Tawny Port (Port)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $100
Sandeman’s aged tawnys have a definite dryness, the wood an important part of the wine. While they are dry, the weight of rich, dried fruit flavors gives a good balance. Acidity mingles with the fruit, enriching the burnt character, giving a wine that is intensely rich rather than sweet.  — R.V.  (2/1/2009)

Sandeman NV Royal Esmeralda Fine Dry Amontillado Sherry (Jerez)

  1. $25
Quite the classic, with rich toffee and nut-like aromas that come through with piercing power. The briny palate is all about dried citrus and nuts, while the earthy, long finish has an unmistakable and very nice mushroom quality. This is a precise, somewhat reserved and dainty amontillado, but it’s structured and quite real as far as style and impact.  — M.S.  (8/1/2003)

Sandeman NV 20 Years Old Tawny Port (Port)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $44
An elegant tawny, perfumed with soft tannins and a good edge of wood acidity and spirit. The wine is dry, densely flavored, tasting mature, showing a good balance between young sweetness and age, with everything well integrated.  — R.V.  (12/15/2008)
