Santa Alicia 2006 Gran Reserva de los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

Begins with a maple-like sweetness, but soon that fades and is replaced by olive, earthy berry fruit, smoky wood and balsamic notes. Rugged but balanced tannins give it structure and spine, while the black cherry and cassis flavors are pure and end with mild herbal and chocolate notes. Well-made Chilean Cabernet.  — M.S.  (3/1/2010)

Santa Alicia 2008 Gran Reserva de los Andes Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $15
Dark cherry, berry and a certain level of sweetness give this wine a ripe opening. The palate is fruity and a touch buttery due to full oak, while the flavors are also oaky but fold in spice, carob and berry flavors. Dry and peppery on the finish.  — M.S.  (6/1/2011)

Santa Alicia 2009 Gran Reserva de los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

  1. $15
This is a spicy number with a minty green aroma along with cherry, molasses and smoke notes. The mouthfeel is edgy and lively, while the flavors of vanilla, cocoa and herbal plum and berry are solid and composed. It’s solid but a bit herbal on the finish.  — M.S.  (3/1/2013)

Santa Alicia 2010 Gran Reserva de los Andes Merlot (Maipo Valley)

  1. $15
Dark spice, mild herbal aromas, lightly stewed berry scents and tomato carry the nose on this Merlot. The mouthfeel is firm and full, and overall quite good, while flavors of baked plum, blackberry, herbs and toast lead to a chocolaty, round finish. This is a good red wine with kick and character.  — M.S.  (6/1/2013)

Santa Alicia 2005 Gran Reserva de los Andes Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $13
Cherry and herbs control the nose, yet there seems to be a little clam shell and sour berry in there, too. The palate is basic and creamy, with nice red-fruit flavors of raspberry, cherry and plum. Shows a slight lactic, creamy personality on the finish while all the time conforming to the model of what is good, higher-end Carmenère.  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)

Santa Alicia 2008 Gran Reserva de los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

Cassis, olive and a hint of nail polish make for a solid, Chilean-style nose. The palate has a firm, juicy feel and nice flavors of raspberry and plum followed by secondary notes of woodspice and vanilla. Peppery and a little resiny on the finish.  — M.S.  (6/1/2011)

This is dry, spicy and subdued on the bouquet, with a red berry aroma leading the charge. Focused and fresh on the palate, it has spicy, mildly oaky flavors of toasty berry fruit. Pinches of pepper and chocolate add weight and darkness to the finish.  — M.S.  (3/1/2013)

Santa Alicia 2006 Gran Reserva de los Andes Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $13
Opens with herbal black fruit aromas, coffee and a helping of grass cuttings, while the palate is snappy in feel and shows flavors of blackberry, herbs and creamy vanilla. Steady on the finish, with mocha as the lasting flavor. Good but ordinary Carmenère.  — M.S.  (12/31/2009)
