One of the palest icewines to come across our tasting table, this is an extraordinarily fine example, with great purity of fruit and incredible balance. Tangerine and pineapple flavors shine with pristine clarity from start to finish, making it very drinkable.

Like all of the Schloss’s noble sweet wines, this one isn’t overblown, displaying ample sweetness but also zesty acidity. There’s a slight greenish hint to the candied citrus and dried pineapple flavors, with a lemony streak on the finish that balances the sweetness impeccably. Should last for 40–50 years—possibly more—in a cool cellar.

Lean and racy, typical of the Saar even at these high ripeness levels, with hints of slate and mint or tea gracing pineapple fruit. The long, vibrant finish is crisp and mouthwatering, with the residual sugar dropping into the background. Drink now-2030+.

Schloss Saarstein’s auslese is remarkably consistent year to year, testament to the greatness of the site and the quality of the farming and winemaking. This medium-bodied wine is clean and tightly focused, with the sweetness admirably balanced by crisp…

Starts off with leesy, minerally notes, including struck flint, but also ripe melon and star anise scents. This is a nicely balanced, not overly sweet auslese, with green apple and citrus fruit smoothly combining with steely acidity and petrol notes. The long finish, filled with green apple and white grapefruit, promises a long life in the cellar.

This wine’s initial aromatics come across as rather subdued, but give them some time and they begin to unfurl into minerally billows of slate and citrus. This shows the crisp, tight structure of the Saar—it’s a tightly coiled spring of green apple and citrus fruits around a core of minerality. Should age through 2015.

A classic kabinett, being light in body yet rich in intensity, this wine offers up oodles of apple, lime and mineral notes. There’s a tinge of honeyed sweetness to the aromas and flavors, but it stays clean and crisp, delicate yet powerful.
