Seven of Hearts 2009 Crawford Beck Vineyard Chardonnay (Eola-Amity Hills)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $24
An elegant, compelling Chardonnay, its fruit accented with lemon, honey and lime. Low cropping of Dijon clone 76 has concentrated the flavors (and the alcohol—a surprising 15.7%) without turning the wine into an overblown fat boy. Nuanced and long, it is one of the most satisfying Chardonnays to come out of Oregon in recent memory.  — P.G.  (8/1/2011)

Seven of Hearts 2008 Crawford Beck Vineyard Pinot Noir (Eola-Amity Hills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
All of the Seven of Hearts wines open with lovely floral scents, then add earth and dark fruits. This has a black cherry core, the fruit wrapped in earthy loam, and the tannins are softened with barrel flavors of vanilla custard. Single vineyard, single clone (115), focused and detailed.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

Seven of Hearts 2008 Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $42
Despite its reserve designation, this elegant wine emphasizes feminine grace over pure power. The alcohol is cited as 13.5%, and the fruit has the spicy tang of just-ripe berries, not sweet or jammy. Spicy herb details illuminate a wine wrapped in smooth milk chocolate barrel flavors. Drinking well already, but should improve over the next five or six years.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

Seven of Hearts 2009 Special Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  1. $42
Four vineyards provided the fruit, one third of which was fermented in whole clusters, creating a round, full-bodied wine with lush cherry fruit, streaked with vanilla. Nice spice notes from barrel aging, and a pleasing earthy character underscores the tannins.  — P.G.  (8/1/2011)

Seven of Hearts 2009 Crawford Beck Vineyard Pinot Noir (Eola-Amity Hills)

  1. $35
Austere and slightly sweaty when first opened, this wine grudgingly displays its black fruits. There is a not-unpleasant metallic note, and spicy toast comes out in the finish. Very young and tight—decanting is highly recommended.  — P.G.  (8/1/2011)

Seven of Hearts 2008 Pinot Noir (Eola-Amity Hills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
Eola Hills Pinots often offer this sort of interesting flavors—a mix of earth, herb and forest; the red fruit is tart and the tannins hard. A wine to cellar, it already shows depth and penetration, with a darker, smoky streak in the finish.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

Seven of Hearts 2009 Chatte d'Avignon Grenache-Syrah (Columbia Valley (OR))

  1. $25
This light and spicy blend of Grenache and Syrah is built upon bright cranberry and cherry flavors, primary fruit with fine acidity. No new oak was used, but the Syrah brings hints of meat and earth to enhance the pure fruit.  — P.G.  (8/1/2011)

Seven of Hearts 2010 Chatte d’Avignon Roussanne-Viognier (Columbia Valley (OR))

  1. $18
Roughly half and half Viognier and Roussanne, this is vivid and fresh, with grapefruit flesh and rind in the flavor mix. Peach and apricot streaks slip into the midpalate, and the wine sets up bracing and clean, with just a hint of bitterness.  — P.G.  (12/1/2011)
