Shaw and Smith 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (Adelaide Hills)
Editors' Choice
Price
$25
The best Sauvignon Blanc yet from Shaw & Smith, the 2009 boasts terrifically fragrant aromas of passion fruit and pink grapefruit. It’s intense and long, easily the qualitative equal of its top Kiwi cousins and better than most. Drink now–2011.

Shaw and Smith 2006 Shiraz (Adelaide Hills)
Editors' Choice
Price
$41
This Shiraz—from a cool region in the context of Australia—reflects its origins, displaying bright, red fruit aromas and hints of cracked pepper. Raspberry and cherry flavors are underscored by chocolate and coffee notes, and the texture is creamy without excessive weight. Finishes long, with echoes of fresh berries.

Shaw and Smith 2008 M3 Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills)
Editors' Choice
Price
$35
Because of the extreme heat of 2008, this wine does show a touch of warmth on the finish and should probably be consumed young, but there’s no crime in that. It’s a luscious blend of lime custard and roasted cashew that’s rich without being heavy, and finishes long and clean.

Shaw and Smith 2007 M3 Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills)
Price
$41
The Shaw and Smith M3 Chardonnay continues to be a reliable performer, with the 2007 showing more restrained oak influence than in the past. It’s still smoky and toasty upfront, but backed by ample apple and citrus fruit, and on the palate there’s more of a toasted-grain note rather than overt vanilla and spice. Acids are crisp, elegantly extending the finish.

Shaw and Smith 2007 Shiraz (Adelaide Hills)

Price
$35
A bit chunkier than the more finesse-full 2006, but still a perfumed, raspberry-scented Shiraz. Savory notes add richness and depth, finishing with some dusty tannins. Drink 2011–2015.

Shaw and Smith 2004 M3 Vineyard Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills)
Online Exclusive
Price
$29
There’s a core of pear and melon fruit, which lends the wine its delicate aromatics and flavors. Toasted nut and smooth river rocks offer flavor and textural nuances on the palate, and through the persistent finish. Pretty, balanced and very food-friendly.

Shaw and Smith 2004 Sauvignon Blanc (Adelaide Hills)
Editors' Choice
Price
$19
This Sauvignon is as crisp and zesty as the Marlborough Sauvignons that are so in vogue right now, minus the lime-green flavors. Fresh-cut grass aromas usher in a bright, lemon-centric palate. As dry as they come; very appealing, and very intense. Just delicious. Imported by Vintus.

Shaw and Smith 2003 M3 Vineyard Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills)
Price
$29
A pretty Chardonnay. It’s piquant and interesting, with a buttery foundation that’s buried deep beneath lemon peel and dry mineral flavors, and a nose that shows floral and kiwi notes. Surges with bright citrus on the finish. Imported by Vintus.
