Sineann

Located in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountain AVA, Sineann Winery was founded by Peter Rosback and David O’Reilly in 1994. While Pinot Noir is the winery’s leading variety, other varieties produced include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Peter Rosback not only sources his grapes from Washington State, but his Sauvignon Blanc is made with New Zealand grapes and some of the red wines are made from Napa Valley-sourced varieties. As a small producer of mostly single vineyard-produced wines, Sineann is able to create wines that express both terroir as well as the typicity of each variety.

Sineann 2006 Red Table Wine

  1. $16
A fine bottle right in line with past vintages. It’s a bright, brambly potpourri of tart red fruits with plenty of acid to lift it up. Raspberry and cherry candy powers the front end, while clean tannins finish up the back. Don’t look for complexity, but what’s here is fresh, fruity, and has none of the herbal or vegetal flavors that pollute so many cheap red…  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)

Sineann 2006 Abondante Red Wine

  1. $24
“Abondante,” which translates as “abundant,” is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Grenache and Merlot. Bright and yes, generous, it’s packed with the flavors of just-picked raspberries. It could pass for a young vine Zin, but whatever you call it this is really a delicious bottle of fruit-powered red wine meant for immediate enjoyment.  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)

  1. $16
Plump and loaded with sweet and tangy red and purple fruits, this lush table wine mixes flavors of raspberry, black cherry and plum hard candy with bracing acids. The juicy, forward fruit gives it a Beaujolais-like quality; nothing too substantial here, but quite delicious.  — P.G.  (4/1/2009)

The newest vintage of Peter Rosback’s Abondante, which translates as generous, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel. The fruit flavors are generous and bright, more Zin-like than anything, loaded with tart acids, fresh raspberries and sour cherries.  — P.G.  (4/1/2009)

Sineann 2010 Abondante Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $24
A witch’s brew of five grapes, the Abondante is a fine wine to pair with pizza, offering interesting flavors of berry and stone fruit. What it lacks in focus, it makes up for with plenty of fruit and some unusual complexity.  — P.G.  (12/31/2012)

Sineann 2000 Reed & Reynolds Vineyard Pinot Noir

  1. $54
Pungent, ripe fruit is perfectly entwined with whiffs of smoke, herbs, roasted meats and cedar. This powerful, complex wine is already displaying some of the signs of age, a result perhaps of its generously ripe, somewhat alcoholic structure. Only 200 cases made. —P.G.  — P.G.  (12/31/2002)

Sineann 2001 Pinot Noir

  1. $30
Lovely aromatics, with soft, cherry fruit, very pretty, round and rich. No heat, no heavy hand with the oak, but it has the “yum” factor, which Pinot so often lacks. Forward and ready now.  — P.G.  (12/1/2003)

Sineann 2001 Covey Ridge Pinot Noir

  1. $42
Interesting, pretty fruit, sweet and forward, but it seems to have a little bit of a hole in the middle. Very seductive and pleasurable; give it plenty of extra air time.  — P.G.  (12/1/2003)
