Siro Pacenti 2006 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $120
Not an obvious wine by any stretch, this riserva opens slowly and bashfully to deliver small pulses of cherry, chocolate and smoked bacon that build in intensity and power as the wine gains momentum in the glass. The tannins are present but are soft and firm without any bitter astringency. Age 10 years or more.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Siro Pacenti 1999 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

A stunningly complete, cool-as-can-be modern wine with great color, lush plum and berry fruit, and very little of the earth and leather notes that some Brunello-istas may be seeking. However, if you like texture, sublime flavors of chocolate and charcoal, and perfectly integrated oak, this is for you. Consider drinking in 2005 or 2006.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)

Siro Pacenti 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $70
This is a gorgeous expression from Montalcino that opens with opulent and beautiful aromas of dark chocolate, ripe cherry, leather and barbecue smoke. The wine is immensely rich and succulent at its core and creamy, velvety density marks the luscious fade.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Siro Pacenti 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $90
This wine sparked wide debate at the Brunello en primeur tasting because of its new, more streamlined style. Siro Pacenti’s 2004 Brunello is not the concentrated blackberry and chocolate fudge bomb of the past. It’s still a meaty, layered wine laced with pretty layers of spice, mineral and ash. But instead of black concentration, it now exhibits ruby luminosity and…  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Siro Pacenti 2000 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $75
This perennial stud struts its stuff once again. Smoke, spice and red-fruit aromas are perfectly interwoven, while the wine itself flows with agile zest. Maybe it doesn’t have the layering of the amazing ’99, but it’s gargantuan on the midpalate and the finish is exotic as it deals nutmeg, marzipan, chocolate, cassis and mint. A proverbial kitchen-sink wine worthy…  — M.S.  (7/1/2005)

Siro Pacenti 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

A wine that speaks of territory and tradition, it’s clean, polished and pristine, with a nice balance between fruit and spice. Thick tannins need more time to age and soften  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Siro Pacenti 2002 Sangiovese (Rosso di Montalcino)

This wine is better than many Brunellos. It offers laudable richness, excellent balance, and pure chocolate and berry flavors along with captivating spice notes. Yes, it’s another modern, chewy red from Pacenti, one that will surely please the new-age palate.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)
