Six Sigma 2005 Tempranillo (Lake County)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $42
This is the best California Tempranillo in this critic’s experience. Granted, the competition hasn’t been all that great, but this wine stands for itself. It’s full-bodied, dry and crisply tannic, and the cherry-berry, bitter chocolate, and fig flavors have just the right touch of new smoky oak. Sourced from a single vineyard, this is Six Sigma’s first Tempranillo…  — S.H.  (2/1/2008)

Six Sigma 2008 Michael’s Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc (Lake County)

  1. $28
A fine example of Lake County Sauvignon Blanc, offering crispness, brightness and integrity. Shows intense flavors of citrus fruits, lemongrass and herbs, and is totally dry, with a mineral-laden spiciness in the finish.  — S.H.  (2/1/2010)

Six Sigma 2006 Tempranillo (Lake County)

  1. $42
Six Sigma’s Tempranillo continues to be one of the most interesting bottlings of this Spanish variety in California. This ’06, like its predecessors, is dry and medium-bodied, and shows a pleasant combination of cherry fruit brightened with fine acidity and wrapped into ripe, smooth tannins. It hints at complex notes of hummus, olives, smoked meat and anise. Try…  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

Six Sigma 2010 Michael’s Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc (Lake County)

  1. $22
This barrel-fermented SB opens with a rich vanilla nose and then gets delicately tropical without overdoing it. A very fine example of Lake County’s ability to grow nicely mannered Sauvignon Blanc and Six Sigma’s deftly achieved balancing act between crisp and creamy.  — V.B.  (4/1/2012)

Six Sigma 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Lake County)

  1. $42
Six Sigma’s Cabernet is entirely unproven, but this one shows great promise. With a heavy rusticity, it has a way to go, but the blackberry and currant fruit is so rich, the tannin-acid balance so fine, that it’s just a matter of time before this estate lands on the coveted map.  — S.H.  (4/1/2008)

Six Sigma 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Lake County)

  1. $42
Lake County remains a serious place for Cabernet Sauvignon and Six Sigma is one of its better Cab practitioners. This 2007 version all rich and yeasty baked bread until it delves into black olive, dark plum and black tea flavors, finished by caramel and vanilla, all in all a refreshingly light touch.  — V.B.  (3/1/2012)

Six Sigma 2010 Sauvignon Blanc (Lake County)

  1. $16
Six Sigma’s workhorse Sauvignon Blanc is light and bright, like a lemon crisp enveloped by grapefruit and melon. It’s fully stainless-steel fermented and ready for spring and summer.  — V.B.  (4/1/2012)

Six Sigma 2008 Cuvée Red (Lake County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $18
A Bordeaux blend with all the usual suspects (except Malbec), Six Sigma’s Cuvee has a huge Cabernet Sauvignon nose, all dark berry and plum with a hint of lavender. It has a huge brick wall of structure, with dusty tannins that finish long and meaty, and a slight blip of just-ripe blackberry.  — V.B.  (7/1/2012)
