Sleight of Hand 2007 The Illusionist Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $40
All five Bordeaux varietals are blended with a bit of Syrah. Firm, dark and concentrated, the wine enters with alluring, complex scents of Asian spice, sweet hay, chamomile and coffee. Raspberry and cherry fruit is set against balancing acidity and ripe tannins. The finish adds coffee liqueur, smoke and tar.  — P.G.  (8/1/2010)

Sleight of Hand 2007 Archimage Red (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $40
Still young and tight, this roughly equal mix of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is showing beautiful complexity in the nose. The palate is smooth and nicely blended, expressing the cool-side flavors of Cabernet Franc and the expansiveness of Washington Merlot. Green tea, black olive, fresh herb, pepper, some light chocolate and tart fruits. Good length.  — P.G.  (8/1/2010)

Sleight of Hand 2005 The Archimage Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $40
Toasty and tannic, it’s a chewy, oaky wine with strong flavors of coffee, caramel and toast. The oak is the main flavor, but it’s undeniably appealing. The fruit, spicy and tannic, features a green tea edge.  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Sleight of Hand 2007 Levitation Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $40
This 100% Syrah needs to breathe and open; it’s nicely melded but subdued. It shows hints of gamy, meaty, wild herb undertones, plenty of acid, tart fruit and berry.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Sleight of Hand 2008 Levitation Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $40
A sharp, acidic, tight, precisely-defined Syrah with cranberry and sour cherry fruit. This wine has the potential for years of aging; even after being open for many hours, the sharp acids and primary fruit flavors remained, along with inviting suggestions of soy and composted earth. If you are not going to cellar it, decanting is mandatory.  — P.G.  (5/1/2011)

Sleight of Hand 2006 The Magician Gewürztraminer (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Though 100% Gewürz, the package plays down the grape in favor of catchy graphics and a hip moniker. It’s a tasting-room style, rich and creamy, and a hint of sugar adds some roundness.  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Sleight of Hand 2007 The Magician White Gewürztraminer (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $17
A nicely balanced, impeccably clean, spicy and leesy wine that puts the emphasis on the fruit rind flavors of the grape, rather than the floral or soapy side. Lime and grapefruit are there in abundance, along with a hint of passion fruit. This is a great choice for spicy Asian food on a warm summer evening.  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)
