Founded in 1989, Sobon Estate Vineyards was a second venture for Leon and Shirley Sobon. In 1977, the Sobons established Shenandoah Vineyards which was one of the original wineries in the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County. As a 30 year anniversary gift to one another they purchased the historic D’Agostini Winery which was later renamed the Sobon Estate Winery. Leon’s focus for Sobon Estate wines has been primarily dedicated to Zinfandel. He chose to plant Zinfandel in his Amador County vineyards because he believed that the climate and soil would provide ideal growing conditions for this varietal according to our Sobon Estate wine reviews. Today, Paul Sobon (Leon’s son and head winemaker) has expanded the portfolio producing Syrah, Sangiovese, Barbera, Tannat, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Rousanne.
