Sokol Blosser 2001 Twelve Row Block Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
-
$66
The name refers to a small section of vineyard planted in 1975, in the heart of a mini-banana belt in the area. It’s a gorgeous looking wine, that breathes class and elegance. Well-defined cranberry, raspberry and cherry fruit flavors come to a focused middle; it’s a high-wire style, still young and fresh, but certainly ageworthy. Cellar Candidate (6 – 10 years).

Sokol Blosser 2008 Goosepen Block Pinot Noir (Dundee Hills)
-
$60
The Goosepen bottling is distinctive, elegant and spicy, with a mix of baking spices, soft fruits, chocolate, coconut and butter. Certainly the barrel program is a success, but it supports pretty fruit flavors of blackberry and sweet plum, and the tannins are soft and seductive. A very pretty, approachable wine.

Sokol Blosser 2001 Old Vineyard Block Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
-
$50
This was the first block of pinot noir planted by the Sokol Blossers in the early 1970s, and it benefits from its maturity, its peerless location in the Red Hills of Dundee, and the fact that it is own-rooted and has escaped the ravages of phylloxera. Scents of cherry, baking spice and cinnamon follow through in the mouth, where the perfect balance of fruit oak and…

Sokol Blosser 2008 Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir (Dundee Hills)
-
$50
Great entry, soft and seductive, with cherry and chocolate, but it dies quickly, fading into a delicate malted milk flavor. Re-tasted after being open for several hours, it had gained a little flesh, retained the milk chocolate flavors, but still seemed to need more bottle age to soften up the finish.

Sokol Blosser 2008 Peach Tree Block Pinot Noir (Dundee Hills)
-
$60
Forward and immediately delicious, this has a mix of peach, pear, apple and the more expected red fruits; it’s a wild panoply of fruit flavor, with balancing acids and tannins. Round, forward, full bodied and textural, it is a uniquely flavorful wine with distinctive fruit-laden profile.

Sokol Blosser’s commitment to sustainable, near-biodynamic vineyard practices is yielding clear cut results. This lovely effort has more detail, more well-defined nuances, than almost any other Oregon Pinot in this relatively modest price range. Sokol Blosser 2001 Watershed Block Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
-
$50
Many Oregon wineries aspire to make Burgundian pinot noir, but few actually do. This classy, elegant offering truly captures the fragrance, seductive texture and feminine grace of good Burgundy. Sexy, tart red fruits, hints of flowers and a light dusting of cocoa and herb keep it interesting through the finish.

Sokol Blosser 1998 Watershed Block Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
-
$65
Sokol Blosser makes three different block-designated Pinots, all unfiltered and quite limited (198 cases of this one). Its full, rich bouquet has an arresting blend of raisins, tea, cherry-tobacco and Port-like scents. Underneath are nuances of licorice and tobacco, and it smells and tastes like a Chianti riserva. Lovely weight, perfect ripeness and good…
