Soldo 2000 Red (Valpolicella)
Best Buy
Price
$6
This light rendering is quite the quaffing wine. The nose is floral, with dried red fruit. The palate delivers more of that dried fruit, particularly currants and raspberry. It feels good on the palate and goes down easy, without a fuss. Best Buy.

Soldo 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (Veneto)
Best Buy
Price
$6
The nose is slightly pickled; in addition, there’s some caramel and marshmallow. Flavors of roasted coffee, tart cherry and cranberry rule the palate, while it finishes with ample acidity but also a hint of the veggies. Mouthfeel is better than the flavor package.

Soldo 2001 Pinot Grigio (Veneto)

Light but clean, with aromas of anise, pears and green apples and modest flavors of pear, watermelon rind and lime.

Soldo 2000 White (Soave)
Price
$6
Some faintly floral aromas and a hint of baking soda add interest to simple lemon-lime flavors. Turns watery on the finish.

Soldo 2000 Red (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo)
Price
$6
Aromas of forest floor, wet dog and wheat bread are awkward and far short of refined. The palate runs sweet and slightly muddled, with sugary boysenberry popping up only to veer off the mark. A chocolaty, thick finish with some baking-spice flavors are okay but fail to save the day.

Soldo 2001 Merlot (Veneto)
Online Exclusive
Price
$6
Aromas akin to gravy as well as pasta smothered in red sauce and processed cheese do nothing to draw you in. The palate brings even more tomato and oregano, and the finish is thick and grabby. This wine is barely acceptable.
