Spellbound 2007 Reserve Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
A big, muscular Petite Sirah, showing the classic profile of the variety. Rich and thick in tannins, it showcases powerful blackberry, plum, currant, bacon and black pepper flavors that finish with fruity sweetness, although the wine is technically dry. A welcome addition to the top tier of Petite Sirah in California.  — S.H.  (4/1/2012)

  1. $15
A great example of Lodi Zin, at a great price. Shows real complexity in the blackberry, cherry, mulberry, molasses, cocoa and cola flavors, accented with exotic dusty spices. For all the richness, it’s totally dry, and the alcohol level is refreshingly low.  — S.H.  (3/1/2009)

Spellbound 2006 Chardonnay

  1. $15
This Chardonnay is similar in flavors and texture to far more expensive bottlings, with a wealth of peaches, pears, pineapples and buttercream. For the price, it’s hard to beat.  — S.H.  (2/1/2009)

Spellbound 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

  1. $15
Good price for a Cab of this elegance and complexity. It’s a dry, full-bodied wine, with proper varietal flavors of black currants and cedar. A great substitute for a more expensive Cab in this economy.  — S.H.  (3/1/2009)

Spellbound 2006 Reserve Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
Lots of rich, ripe black currants in this chunky wine, with other notes of leather, dark chocolate and pepper. But it has a dry, tannic bitterness to it. May be a function of youth, and could blossom unexpectedly one of these days.  — S.H.  (12/1/2009)

Tastes almost like an Aussie Shiraz, a big, jammy but drily acidic wine that explodes in blackberry, cherry and pepper flavors. Robust and fun, a great wine to serve with barbecue or rich meat stews.  — S.H.  (3/1/2011)

Spellbound 2010 Chardonnay

  1. $15
Winemaker Rob Mondavi, Jr. sourced Chardonnay grapes from predominantly Lodi for this lightly aromatic, balanced wine. It opens with a big taste of ripe golden apples and vanilla, and a slightly tropical finish.  — V.B.  (9/1/2012)

Spellbound 2010 Petite Sirah

  1. $15
Most of the grapes for this wine were sourced in Lodi. For a 24,000-case production, this has plenty of personality. Spice, tobacco and coffee notes jump out first, followed by straightforward blueberry, jammy yumminess.  — V.B.  (9/1/2012)
