Very smooth and harmonious, from its cherry, cocoa and smoke-tinged aromatics through the similarly endowed palate, where licorice and cedar notes add further complexity. Balanced, not weighty; it closes with very even tannins and a full, even black-cherry finish with toasty notes. Approachable now; will improve over the next three years.

The structure and pedigree of this fine wine are immediately apparent. It hits the mouth with a wonderful balance of ripe fruit, fine tannins, firm acidity and perfectly integrated oak. The deep flavors of blackberry jam spread onto buttered toast, and drizzled with anise liqueur and melted chocolate, are irresistable. But the tannins are still hard. Decant now for…

The wine, with a classic Cab profile, is young and needs time to pull it all together. Shows beautifully ripe blue and blackberries and stone fruits, wrapped in dusty tannins and lots of new oak. Really fine, polished and high-end. Should begin to harmonize by 2008, and hold through 2020.

Foster’s should be a happy new owner of this property. Here there’s a concentrated bouquet of smoky, toasty oak and full red fruit backed up by tobacco, bitter chocolate and buttery oak. If you are a fan of heavily wooded wines you’ll love this. It finishes extremely smooth and long.

From a veteran producer that’s been crafting elegant Cabs for over 20 years. Deep aromas of currants, plums, olives and smoky oak. In the mouth it’s fruity, spicy and soft, almost feminine, with velvety tannins. Drinks beautifully now but has the balance to last.

A very pretty wine, with near- perfect balance and that elusive quality of elegance. Definitely comes down onthe herbal side, with pronounced flavors of green olives. Oak provides some sweetness and spice, but it’s a bone-dry wine, with dusty tannins. Demands rich foods.

An astonishingly good Merlot that reeks with distinction and class. Fully ripened blackberry fruit is nuanced with tobacco, sage and smoke. The mouthfeel is out of this world. It’s liquid velvet, full of subtle but powerful flavors, dry and rich, that linger into a long, complex finish.

A beautiful young Merlot, soft and lush, with the classic tannic structure of Napa Valley. With intricate currant, cocoa-dusted cappuccino, cherry skin, herb and cedar flavors, it should hold and improve for up to six years.
