Steppe Cellars 2008 StoneTree Vineyard Syrah (Wahluke Slope)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $28
An unusual and compelling effort, this opens with lush, generous fruit flavors of both red and black berries, highlighted with orange peel. Excellent depth and texture, with a full-bodied middle and palate-pleasing minerality. Gains complexity through a lingering finish.  — P.G.  (5/1/2012)

Steppe Cellars 2008 StoneTree Vineyard Red (Wahluke Slope)

  1. $28
Pretty, supple purple fruits infuse this interesting blend of Tempranillo, Grenache and Mourvèdre. No one grape dominates; the flavors are smoothly integrated and well-matched, with an undercoating of smoke, licorice, pastis and coffee. Nicely polished tannins.  — P.G.  (5/1/2012)

Steppe Cellars 2008 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $28

Steppe Cellars 2006 Gewürztraminer (Yakima Valley)

A dry and spicy, nicely made wine that’s leesy with good minerality and underlying dry floral notes.  — P.G.  (12/31/2008)

Steppe Cellars 2008 StoneTree Vineyard Malbec (Wahluke Slope)

  1. $28
It drinks bigger than the listed 14% alcohol, but remains all in proportion. Tangy cherry and plum fruit flavors are wrapped in spice, cinnamon especially. A coffee scent carries through on the palate, infusing the finish.  — P.G.  (5/1/2012)

Steppe Cellars 2006 Dry Riesling (Yakima Valley)

  1. $16
Scents of stone and anise lead into pretty floral notes. Clean and racy, this comes across with a pleasing minerality. There’s a good leesy texture to the midpalate. The only quibble is that it turns a little bit soft and soapy as it hits the finish.  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Steppe Cellars 2006 Sémillon (Yakima Valley)

  1. $12
Plenty of wood, a waxy quality and flavors of light honey, toast and spice with faint apricot (dried) fruit.  — P.G.  (12/31/2008)

Steppe Cellars 2006 Dry Riesling (Rattlesnake Hills)

This has scents of cracker, artificial sweetener and candied citrus. Tastes better than it smells; quite dry, a bit astringent, with lemon rind, dried pineapple and hints of orange.  — P.G.  (12/31/2008)
