Steve Hoff 2004 Rossco's Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

  1. $47
This is prototypical Barossa Valley Shiraz, boasting a big, lush mouthfeel and great depth of ripe fruit. Vanilla and dill notes from 18 months in oak add another layer of decadence to the blackberry and plum flavors. Finishes long, buffered by a creamy texture and soft tannins. Drink now–2015.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)

Steve Hoff 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Barossa Valley)

  1. $28
With its mint and cassis on the nose, this wine is clearly identifiable as Cabernet despite its easy drinkability. Tannins are supple, the mouthfeel nicely round, with a long, fruit-driven finish that develops some lovely black tea and tobacco notes. Drink now–2015.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)

Hoff is a reliable source for satisfying Barossa Shiraz. The 2005 shows touches of carob to go with its blackberry fruit, a lush, creamy texture and a hint of cracked pepper on the finish. Drink now-2015.  — J.C.  (11/1/2008)

Steve Hoff 2004 Shiraz (Barossa)

  1. $29
Starts off a bit tarry and meaty, but those elements are balanced by baking spices and blackberry pie. This is medium-bodied on the palate, where the flavors run more toward blueberries. Lovely expression of fruit, with just a bit of spice on the finish. Drink now–2012.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)

Steve Hoff 2002 Rossco's Shiraz (Barossa)

  1. $40
Though this wine has the same cherry and plum fruit that many others in Barossa do this vintage, it is bolstered by mocha and toasty accents. A solid, food-weight wine, and one that would suit a burger or roast beef very well. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.  — D.T.  (10/1/2005)

Steve Hoff 2000 Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

  1. $20
A flat-out strange but good wine, and a good selection if you’re trying to stump your friends in a blind tasting. Standing out on the bouquet are earth and lanolin; juicy, red-plum fruit is tinged with a little rhubarb in the mouth. Medium-bodied, and not what you’d expect from Barossa Shiraz. —D.M.  — D.T.  (3/1/2003)
