Steven Kent 2007 Ghielmetti Vineyard Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon (Livermore Valley)

  1. $100
There’s a beautiful wine in here, but it’s buried under tannins. Also, the fruit is all primary blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and cherry jam, while the oak stands to the side, insistent in vanilla and toast. Nothing has merged, everything is separated. Yet this is a great wine, easily the greatest Cabernet to emerge from Livermore Valley in memory. Beautiful now…  — S.H.  (9/1/2010)

Steven Kent 2007 Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon (Livermore Valley)

  1. $45
This is a beautiful, intricate and appealing Cabernet to drink with upscale fare, like a very fine steak. It’s bone dry, but very rich and sweet in blackberry, cherry and currant fruit, and there’s a nice cut of acidity for balance. Steven Kent is producing today’s greatest Livermore Cabernets, wines that hearken back to the valley’s roots as one of California’s…  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

  1. $60
Give this Cabernet some time in the cellar. Right now, it’s a little tough in acids and tannins, although the blackberry, cherry, black currant and smoky oak flavors are rich and fine and enjoyable now. But it should soften and be even more approachable after 2013.  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

Steven Kent 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Livermore Valley)

  1. $45
Steven Kent Mirassou is practically single-handedly reviving Livemore Valley’s historic reputation for Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine shows a wonderfully lush structure and impeccable tannins, framing slightly herbal, dusty flavors of blackberries, blueberries, cherries and cedar. Really fine, and a superb accompaniment for rich meats and cheeses.  — S.H.  (8/1/2009)

Steven Kent 1999 Folkendt Vineyard - Merrillie Chardonnay (Livermore Valley)

  1. $36
From a newish winery, this stunning Chard opens with lush, opulent aromas of tropical fruits and peach, lime peel, smoke, butterscotch, mineral and smoky oak. Fabulous depth and complexity in the mouth, with an almost unnatural limpidity and velvety softness.  — S.H.  (12/15/2001)

Steven Kent 2008 Ghielmetti Vineyard Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon (Livermore Valley)

  1. $100
This first vintage of Steven Kent’s Ghielmetti Vineyard Cab is worth seeking out to see what Livermore is capable of. Ghielmetti is planted to five different clones of Cab but for this wine the winery is using only one block. The result a big, serious Cab that’s concentrated with black cherry, cocoa and tobacco that will majestically develop over the next 10–12 years.  — V.B.  (7/1/2011)

Steven Kent 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (Livermore Valley)

  1. $45
From a single vineyard, this is a rich and complex wine. Concentrated aromas and flavors of black currants and cassis are pure and compelling, while oak is lavish but not heavy-handed. Great balance of soft, lush tannins and acidity.  — S.H.  (10/1/2003)

Steven Kent 2007 Home Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Livermore Valley)

A beautiful, complex and upscale Cabernet to drink now, after a good decant. It’s bone dry and a little soft, with intricately layered blackberry, black currant and oak flavors. Feels lush and important in the mouth, and the spicy finish lasts for a long time.  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)
