Sticks 2002 Chardonnay (Yarra Valley)
Best Buy
Price
$15
A classic Aussie Chard, big in that creamy lime way, with additional flavors of peaches, figs and vanilla. It’s all boosted by very bright, crisp acidity and a steely structure. Fills the mouth with a honeyed juiciness.

Consumers are reaping the benefit of Australia’s Chardonnay grape glut. This elegant, refined, cool-climate Chardonnay comes at a bargain price for its flavors of lightly grilled pineapple, melon, citrus and hazelnut. Drink now–2012.

Sticks 2007 Sauvignon Blanc (Yarra Valley)

Blasts off with gorgeous, soaring scents of gooseberry and pink grapefruit, then adds hints of melon to the array of flavors on the palate. Turns slightly lean and grassy on the finish. Drink now.

Sticks 2006 Shiraz-Viognier (Victoria)
Price
$20
Nicely fruity and softly tannic, this is a fine introduction to the Shiraz-Viognier genre. Apricot and raspberry flavors lead the way in this medium-bodied wine that’s fairly priced for the quality.

Sticks 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Yarra Valley)
Online Exclusive
Price
$17
Nicely balanced, this is the sort of restrained Cab Sauvignon Yarra Valley can do well, with hints of mint and eucalyptus layered over cassis fruit. The texture is creamy, the tannins smooth. It’s not as rich as the 2003, or a barrel sample of the 2006, but it’s well crafted and harmonious.

Sticks 2004 Shiraz (Yarra Valley)
Price
$17
Yarra Valley is perhaps best known as Pinot Noir country, and this wine reflects the cool climate in its layers of peppery spice that gently frame black cherry and cola flavors. Peppery and clean on the finish. Drink now–2010.

Sticks 2004 Pinot Noir (Yarra Valley)
Online Exclusive
Price
$17
Light to medium in body, this has the silky mouthfeel of Pinot Noir to go with its crisp cherry-cranberry flavors. Hints of tomato leaf and tea start off engaging and herbal, but turn a bit drying and tannic on the finish.

Sticks 2002 Pinot Noir (Yarra Valley)
Price
$15
Seems like a hot-climate Pinot, with aromas of baked cherry pie and rich, jammy cherry flavors. A nice wine, and shows off this difficult varietal’s soft, silky tannins and gentle mouthfeel.
