Stone Creek 2006 Sauvignon Blanc (Mendocino County)
Best Buy

Pretty good for the price, with real varietal character. Dryness and acidity bracket the citrus and pepper flavors, which are entirely unoaked, and the finish is tangy clean.

Quite a good Cab for this everyday price. It’s dry and smooth, with ripe flavors of blackberries, cherries, dark chocolate and oak. Easy to like because of the balance.

Stone Creek 1998 Special Selection Zinfandel (California)
Best Buy
Price
$8
Lithe and nicely balanced, this flavorful wine shows a red berry-herb bouquet and a pleasingly dry, gently spicy palate. The mouthfeel is good, and shows some texture despite the fact that it’s light-weight on the palate. An interesting chalk note comes in on the back end of this pleasant, easy-drinking surprise.

Stone Creek 2001 California Merlot (California)
Best Buy
Price
$8
Kind of rough around the edges, with a bit of residual sweetness and a few unripe notes. But it drinks much fruitier and friendlier than it sounds, and that makes it a pretty good value in a sandwich wine.

Stone Creek 1998 Special Selection Merlot (California)
Best Buy
Price
$8
A drinkable Merlot at this price is noteworthy; this one, with its aromas of berries, toast and herbs—even tomatoes—will make lots of friends. Tart cherry-berry fruit and earth is smooth on the palate and blends in some tea notes on the abbreviated finish. Best Buy.

Fruity, simple and technically clean, a perfectly acceptable little Cabernet with an easy price. The cherry and blackberry flavors are swimming in soft, gentle tannins.
