Crisp and likable, this smells stony and snappy, with spring pea, passion fruit and citrus aromas. It feels well cut, with green bean, grass and citrus flavors. While it hints at being vegetal, it maintains a consistent white-fruit and citrus profile.  — M.S.  (11/1/2012)

Storks' Tower 2009 Tríptico Tempranillo-Shiraz (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  1. $30
Opaque purple to the eye, which portends the wine’s dark, meaty, jammy aromas of black fruit and leather. The palate is chewy and syrupy in feel, with massive but basic blackberry, toast and peppery flavors. Big and hot on the finish, with size but suspect balance. 67% Tempranillo and 33% Shiraz.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

This is appealing from the beginning, with fresh raspberry, strawberry and mineral aromas. It feels nice and bright, with flavors of citrus, pink grapefruit and green herb. Finishes with forward acidity and mild flavors of sage and tarragon.  — M.S.  (7/1/2012)

Dry and not all that fruity up front, with a blast of oak. The palate shows weight and bold acidity, which pumps up the lemon, apple and pineapple flavors. A bit sour, scouring and sharp, but also cleansing and fresh. Blunt white wine.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

A barrel-heavy blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo? That’s what this is, so expect popcorn and bland white fruit along with plenty of acidity. On one hand, it’s an angular, sour wine that makes you wonder; on the other hand, it blends toast, butter, baked apple and lemon into a nutty whole that’s not bad. Has both merits and faults.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Dusty, lightly oaked berry aromas are entirely regular, while the berry driven palate is dry, drawing and oaky, with pretty good body but stand-out acidity as well. Tastes a bit woody and peppery late. A highly generic wine that makes you wonder why it costs $30.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

A bit jumbled early on, and then more open and minerally. The palate is chunky but hollow, with melon and green fruit flavors. Finishes with a touch of citrus and a soft, quick fade. Bland but easy to drink.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Bright purple bug juice, with more than enough jumpy fruit and medicinality. Young and gummy in the mouth, with electric blackberry and boysenberry flavors along with sheer acidity and excess weight. 85% Tempranillo with Shiraz.  — M.S.  (7/1/2011)
