Massively proportioned, this is a wine picked at maximum sugary ripeness and then fully fermented, leaving it very dry, but alcoholic, at 16.2%. The plush berry flavors are delicious and complex, and cover the palate with fruity sweetness. This is long-hangtime California Zin all the way, and in its own style, a classic. —S.H.

At the age of seven years, this Cab remains filled with primary fruit flavors and tastes young and jammy. Floods the mouth with blackberries, cherries, black and red currants, licorice, chocolate and smoky oak flavors. It’s a powerful wine with pretty high alcohol that should develop at least through 2015.

Tannic and jammy now, showing ripe, freshly crushed blackberry, cherry and blueberry flavors liberally accented with smoky oak. A bit direct and obvious, but the tannins are thick, and the wine could age.

A bit rustic in the sweet, briary fruit and sticky tannins, but shows nobility in the crispness of the finish. With its blackberry, currant and cassis flavors, it should develop bottle complexity for a few years, but not for a long time.

Much different in style from Stryker Sonoma’s Dry Creek Syrah, this bottling is riper and more intense. Lush plum and blackberry flavors are broad and mouthfilling, picking up hints of vanilla on the abbreviated finish. Drink now.

Oaky and ripe. Shows strong barrel influences of caramel and sweet, smoky vanilla that cover blackberry jam and chocolate flavors. At this price, it needs greater control and balance.

Hebal and tea-like, dominated by green leafy notes and drying tannins, which doesn’t bode well for future development. There’s just enough cherry flavor to redeem it, but drink up.

Floral and spicy on the nose, with hints of berry zinger tea. Picks up hints of cherries and chocolate on the palate, but without adding any weight, then finishes crisp and clean. Pretty, but light.
