Stuhlmuller Vineyards 2004 Reserve Chardonnay (Alexander Valley)

  1. $38
This is a dramatically structured Chardonnay, a finely balanced wine from Alexander Valley, which produces lush, exotic Chards. The warmth of the vintage has softened the acidity, and while it’s not an ager, it’s enormously complex. Papaya, mango, crystalized ginger candy and cinnamon spice flavors are long and deep, while extensive new oak adds luscious…  — S.H.  (5/1/2007)

Stuhlmuller Vineyards 2007 Estate Chardonnay (Alexander Valley)

  1. $24
The best Chardonnays from this warm Sonoma County valley show tropical fruit flavors and are quite decadent, and this is one of the best. With crisp acidity, it brims with pineapple crème brûlée, papaya and vanilla custard. Drink this opulent wine with rich fare, such as scallops, crab and lobster.  — S.H.  (5/1/2009)

Stuhlmuller Vineyards 2005 Estate Chardonnay (Alexander Valley)

  1. $23
. If you’re familiar with the lush, complex Chards from Robert Young, this will ring a bell. It’s layered in ripe mango, guava, nectarine, peach and smoky, caramelized oak flavors, with an exotic taste of butter-sautéed bananas. All that flavor is nicely balanced by rich, lemony acidity.  — S.H.  (5/1/2007)

Stuhlmuller has established a fine track record with this wine. The signature is an oak-infused spiciness, and the flamboyant tropical fruit flavors of Alexander Valley Chardonnay. Tiers of pineapples, pears and mangoes flood the palate, leading to a long, honey-rich finish.  — S.H.  (7/1/2008)

Stuhlmuller Vineyards 2008 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)

  1. $65
Stuhlmuller’s regular 2008 Cabernet, released a year ago, was quite good. This one’s even better. It has all the hallmarks of a superior Cabernet, with rich, delicious blackberry, cherry, licorice, Dr. Pepper cola and oak flavors, framed into soft, intricate tannins. With a pleasant minerality, it should age well through 2016, gradually losing fruit.  — S.H.  (3/1/2012)

Stuhlmuller Vineyards 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)

  1. $36
Shows the soft acids, gentle tannins and herbaceousness that mark most Alexander Valley Cabs, with supporting cherry, red currant and licorice flavors. It’s a complex wine, balanced and intriguing, and a fine pairing for a very wide variety of foods. Interestingly, indigenous, or wild, yeast was used for fermentation.  — S.H.  (7/1/2008)
