Taj 2006 Syrah (Los Carneros)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $30
Beautiful aromas invite you into this beautiful Syrah, with black cherry, cassis, violet, sandalwood, red currant, anise and pepper aromas that lead to a lush mouthfeel. It’s a tremendous wine, sweet in smoky oak and firm in tannins, with a finish of spicy butterscotch. Only 212 cases were produced, but it will be worth the search to track down a few bottles.  — S.H.  (9/1/2009)

Taj 2007 Syrah (Sonoma Valley)

  1. $24
Nice blackberry, mocha, teriyaki beef and pepper flavors in this dry, smoothly tannic wine. It’s too soft to show development in the bottle, but is pretty good for drinking now.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Strong and awkward in winemaker interventions, this Chardonnay is dominated by buttered toast and popcorn flavors. Pineapple jam shows up, accented with crisp acidity.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Tough and gritty, with uneven tannins and some minty green flavors alongside the cherries, mulberries and red currants. Not going anywhere, so drink up.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)
