Talley 2005 Rosemary's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)
-
$70
This is a great 2005 Pinot Noir, the best ever from Talley. The wine somehow combines huge ripe fruit with delicacy. It floods the mouth with profound currant, cherry pie, licorice, cola, raspberry, cocoa and vanilla smoke flavors, yet feels light and silky, and is thoroughly dry. That’s the magic of Pinot Noir. You can enjoy this small production wine now, and it…

Talley 2008 Rosemary's Vineyard Chardonnay (Arroyo Grande Valley)

Chardonnays from this vineyard are virtually guaranteed to be among the richest in California, and Talley’s 2008 certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s a massively structured, flamboyant wine, tremendous in tropical fruit, pear, peach and apple flavors that taste like they’ve been baked into a pie, along with the sweet, smoky crust. A tremendous wine that must be…

Talley 2009 Rincon Vineyard Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)

$58
Sheer opulence is the hallmark of this wine. Call it feminine in its soft silkiness, and the way the raspberry, cherry and sandalwood flavors caress the palate. Yet there’s a firmness of structure, a stony, minerally quality that lends power and authority. Great now, and will develop in the bottle for the next 6–8 years.

A great Pinot Noir, although it’s rugged now in its youth, with a scoury mouthfeel. Raspberries, cherries, cola, mushrooms splashed with balsamic, and white pepper, clove and cinnamon spices mark the flavors. Should emerge from austerity by 2015 and provide good drinking for several years afterward.

$42
A great Rincon Chardonnay, Talley’s best ever. So rich and dramatically layered in pineapple tart, Meyer lemon custard, Key lime pie, golden apricot, mango and vanilla oak flavors, yet so briskly acidic and bright, with a firm minerality, like a lick of cold steel. Only 460 cases produced, but worth a special search.
