Tango 2002 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)
Best Buy
Price
$12
Full and wholesome on the nose, with blackberry, cherry and smoke aromas. Tastes good as a full package, with a pure finish. A rock-solid wine, clearly the best in the Tango line.

Tango 2002 Merlot (Mendoza)
Best Buy
Price
$9
Quite funky at first, with initial cotton- candy aromas that mix in hints of leather and light red fruit. Things find a more even keel aided by time in the glass, and finally it ends softly. Not much stuffing but not bad.

Tango 2002 Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)
Price
$12
A bit uncommon and scattered on the bouquet, but deep digging reveals mincemeat and blueberry notes. The palate offers simple red-fruit flavors prior to a light, tart finish. Fresh and likable.

Tango 2002 Syrah (Mendoza)

Price
$9
Aromas of leather, tobacco and rubber border on artificial but hold the line. The fat palate features plum fruit, while the finish turns oaky, buttery and tangy. Even if this doesn’t hit the bull’s eye, it’s nice enough.

Tango 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

Price

Rubbery on the nose, with bold lactic aromas along with spice and red fruit. The sketchy palate reveals cherry and chocolate, and those flavors come with a kick. Fairly aggressive given the depth of fruit and polish.

Tango 2002 Chardonnay (Mendoza)
Price
$9
A little old by now, but the smooth, light aromas convey additional life and freshness. The palate mixes citrus and apple, while there’s some white-pepper spice on the finish. Fairly full, but low-acid.

Tango 2002 Malbec (Mendoza)

Price

Prickly aromas are sour; there’s just too much rhubarb and bramble to the nose. Texture is the wine’s main attribute; the palate is firm and structured, yet soft enough to enjoy. Problem is the flavor profile is marred by mild weediness and green flavors. Incongruous as a whole.

Tango 2001 Malbec (Mendoza)
Price
$10
At first you almost have to laugh at the name. Would the Spanish call one of theirs “Bullfight?” That said, the wine itself isn’t bad. It’s a bit heavy, forceful and unrefined. What hinders it is a rubbery mouthfeel and a mild burn to the finish.
