Tapeña 2009 Rosé (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  • Best Buy
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
Neutral, minerally, salinic and refreshing on the nose, which is exactly what this critic wants from a $10 rosado. The palate is juicy and clean, with acid-driven flavors of pink grapefruit, tangerine and nectarine. Finishes in straight-ahead fashion, with snap and cleansing acids.  — M.S.  (11/1/2010)

Tapeña 2008 Rosé (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

Two vintages running this is good, even-flowing rosé. The color is on the red side, but the nose dials in on fluffy red-berry aromas. Plum is the primary fruit flavor, and there’s body and a flame of heat and spice to the finish. A good food wine to drink now.  — M.S.  (8/1/2009)

Tapeña 2007 Rosé (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Already in the twilight of its lifespan, this is a friendly rosé with a little wiggle and kick. The palate sits on ripe nectarine and pink grapefruit, while the finish offers pepper and spice. A little pithy but pretty good if you get at it soon.  — M.S.  (12/15/2008)

Tapeña 2008 Verdejo (Tierra de Castilla)

  • Best Buy
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
A consistent wine from year to year that’s made in a friendly, mass-appeal style. It’s not so pungent and citrusy like some Verdejo; instead it’s more peachy, sweet and melony. Soft on the finish but with just enough acidity to get it through the year.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Tapeña 2006 Verdejo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Clean, wet, a bit sweet and rather formulaic, this Verdejo has a soft, chummy personality and seemingly more than a dash of residual sugar. Still, it manages to push tasty apple cider, papaya and other fuller-bodied, less acidic flavors.  — M.S.  (4/1/2008)

Tapeña 2007 Tempranillo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  1. $10
Smells a little fiery, although you do get decent cherry and raspberry from the nose. Solid enough in the mouth, with ripe plum and black cherry flavors in front of a candied, vanilla-ladened finish. Pretty good, with commercially viable sweetness.  — M.S.  (10/1/2009)

Tapeña 2007 Garnacha (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  1. $10
The nose is heavy and dosed with burnt rubber and leather, but the palate fares better, with cherry and raspberry flavors and a pretty clean and clear mouthfeel. A simple but sound wine with a slight resiny green character but mostly it shows decent red fruit with mild sweetness. Imported by Freixenet USA.  — M.S.  (10/1/2009)

Tapeña 2005 Garnacha (Tierra de Castilla)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
Nothing earth-shattering here, but this Garnacha is sweet and syrupy, with jammy berry and black plum flavors. It’s totally round and soft, with no hard tannins or confounding complexities. It’s a sound, uneventful red wine.  — M.S.  (11/1/2007)
