Tedeschi 2001 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella)
-
$49
It’s the rare Amarone that demands cellaring these days, but this is definitely a candidate. Grilled black plum scents lead the way, followed by plum, prune and dark chocolate flavors. Dusty, cocoa-powder-like tannins and a small amount of sweetness should mellow in four or five years, so drink from 2010.

Tedeschi 2006 Capitel Monte Olmi Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
-
$90
Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi opens with inky, dark concentration and lush aromas of ripe fruit, blackberry preserves, cola, tar, licorice, dried herbs and black olive. The wine presents thick, bittersweet tannins on the end and a long, fruit-driven close.
