Tenuta Le Querce 2000 Rosso di Costanza Aglianico (Aglianico del Vulture)
Price
$40
Stylish but bold. The nose is bruising but lively, with pepper, plum and overall punch. In the mouth, black cherry and raspberry fruit is both snappy and rich. A wine with personality. And it’s not fading.

Tenuta Le Querce 1999 Rosso Di Costanza Red (Aglianico del Vulture)
Price
$26
With its powerful aromas of toast and caramel, lush but indistinct black fruit flavors and soft, ripe tannins framed by oak, this could be the poster child for the “international” style. It may not be the most individual or distinctive wine, but our panel enjoyed it for its sheer lusciousness and pure hedonism.

Tenuta Le Querce 1999 Il Viola Red (Aglianico del Vulture)
Best Buy
Price
$11
Smells a bit like fresh veggies—like a clean earthy or dusty character—but also of stone fruits like apricot and peach; aromas and flavors you might find in some Grenache-based wines from the southern Rhône. It’s round and full in the mouth, with gritty tannins that give a hard edge to the finish. Best Buy.

Tenuta Le Querce 2001 Il Viola Aglianico (Aglianico del Vulture)
Price
$18
Bulky fruit, leather and some overt wood manifesting itself as dry cheese comprise the bouquet. Plum, red currant and cherry tomato make for a tight, snappy palate. Lots of zip, although tannic and tight.
